Xbox 360 sees price drop in Canada

DVDBack23 @ Feb 21, 2008 21:17 | 15 comments

Microsoft Canada has announced price drops across the line for all of its Xbox 360 models and it seems Canadian buyers will finally see prices more equivalent to their southern neighbors in the US.

The Xbox 360 Pro pack will drop to $349 CAD and the Elite Pack will drop to $449 CAD. The base-level Arcade model will see the smallest cut, from $299 CAD to $279 CAD.

Its US counterparts reached their current pricing model in late August 2007, and so far Canadian gamers have been forced to pay a large premium for the consoles, higher than even the discrepancy in the US and Canadian dollar which is now less than a couple cents per dollar.

They need to do something really fast . If you are a gamer , maybe you enjoy watching movies once in a while , now that blu ray won ...things are not going to be easy for microsoft.

No thanks. I'd rather just shell out 500 for a major pc upgrade rather than 400 for an Xbox where you have to wait eons for Microshaft to send you a return box to ship your broken one in..

500 will buy you a kick ass motherboard, dual core cpu, 2gigs ram and a radeon 3850.

1900x1200 resolution beats the xbox any day of the week.

@mattkind

I'd disagree as a games console there doing just fine. As a media centre well then they got a problem with the whole blu-ray problem. However you believe that movies off the net are they way forward then they got nothing to worry about. As a games console there doing just fine. And dare i say it, "winning" without the ps3 fan boys killing me?

I think and probably this will happen , as a game console , xbox is great never got any problems but dont forget that 300,000 HD DVD add on were purchased. Now in my case, i have to buy a blu-ray player and the cheapest is the PS3. Whats gonna happen is that people will start to buy games for the ps3. Im not sure if you get me point.

No yer definatly the bluray winning will increase sales. And could damage the 360s lead if ms arent carefull. Hopefully theyl bring out a bluray add on. :-)

That would be sweeet!

Yeah ps3 will probably sell more now, but not for gaming, 360 as leading the most games sold and most games sold per consol out of the 3, dunno the exact stats though, but i can reckon ps3's stats are very low and so are wii's because there are onyl 5 decent games for wii, but adults seem to be buyign the wii and just playign with wii sports, a game that comes free!

Good move.

Blu-Ray winning will help PS3 sells, but I think it'll only make games sales even worse. In Jan, Sony tied their past record for PS3 games in the Top 10 selling for the month... with 1 title. It was also their highest ranking title... at #8. This was the same month where the PS3 beat the 360 and neared the Wii in hardware sales, although MS and Nintendo both claimed supply constraints (analysts agreed though so maybe there is something to it).

PS3 owners aren't buying games. If the PS3 flies off of shelves and games are still tanking left and right, it'll be an interesting scene.

PS3 owners, like myself, are not buying games at the moment as, well, what is there to buy really? COD4. Most of us are waiting on the games like Haze, GT5, R6V2, GTA4, MGS4 and even Lost Planet. Games aren't flying for any consoles at the time being anyways... Everyone is beng retarded in not spreading out the dates and releasing even most of the bigger games I've mentioned alone in March and April so they can make less money? But whatever. I've been saving, recently purchased Rock Band and still have enough for another 3-4 games.

Anyways, about the limmited console stuff, the only reason it would be a little hard to grab at a 360 is becausemost of the new ones are being bought and then swaped with broken ones and taken back :P

My friends are too lazy to wait up to 6 weeks like one of my friends had to...

God bless those idiots at Wal-Mart ;)

Oh, and this new price cut, I don't think we'll be seeing them fly off the shelves too much as that isn't much of a better deal then the PS3 as you get more in some cases useless features for only $50 more(plus, it seems to be getting better as the time passes, which is better then the other way around... Remember those scary commercials?) :P

This price cut is nothing too special as i got a 360 plus NHL 2K8 and Forza 2 for 350 CDN back in september. This just means that every other week, the price will be the same.

well best buy and futureshop today reduced the price by 50 bucks and the pro comes with free bioshock and the elite comes with free turok.. nice to see this. as i bought my xbox last week and futureshop gave me $50 back and a free turock...

The Elite is rather useless unless you plan to spend tons of money on M$ points and download a crap load of movies and games :S

Oh, but it is black... I guess that's worth the extra money :P

Ok couple problems:

1. ALL HDMI CORDS ARE THE SAME! You can get a no-name for $12 or less and it's just as good as a $300 Monster Cable. Look around. Ask the pros.

2. You know what their 120GB HDD cost? $220+. You know what I payed for my 1TB EXT HDD? $190 dead on. The Question: What's wrong with this picture?

3. It's black, nothing special. I could grab a premium and paint it the same colour for $2 or even less lol

Prices that drop are always good but i guess Microsoft has to do some major work to catch up to Nintendo's Wii.
