I fail to see how the Wii can be compared against the PS3 or the 360 in the same context. The target audiences are way different. The Wii's main appeal is not to the hardcore gamers that the next-gen consoles are aiming for, but to those people who for whatever reason may not have opted for any form of console in the past. It's the interface that sells the Wii and not the capabilities. So really, the types of TVs that people own will probably not affect the types of consoles that they buy.

What's really held back the next-gen sales will undoubtedly have been the prices. With the 360 being the first console out, MS would have been able to drop the prices quite early on, since they had a fairly good run with no real competition. The high price of the PS3 on its release meant that it's initial uptake was rather slow. However, now that Sony too have been able to lower the prices, sales are picking up.

Of course, I'm sure that price isn't the only decider. The gaming experience, the way the product is marketed and yes, even the graphical quality and abilities are all factors too. Rest assured however, that the 360 and especially the PS3 will most likely have their year this year, as the prices come down enough to bring the rest of the gaming public into the fold.

Wii can only compared to PS2.
There is no way that Wii can be compared with PS3 or 360 is like comparing a Yugo with Buggati Veyron.

2008 and 2009 will be very good years for PS3 for the reasons that already have been said plus blu-ray win will play its role too, like DVD did with PS2.
I believe that M$ will be forced to release another version of 360 if things go really good for PS3.

Yeah, I think it'll be quite intersting to see how much further MS proceed with HD-DVD backing, thanks to recent events. I think that any future use for next-gen media on the 360 will have to be questioned, now that some of the larger retailers seem to be heading towards Blu-Ray.

It's good to see the PS3 is finally starting to come into its prime. 2007 was a great year for X360 and 2008 should be PS3's year to shine. The Wii - the only of the three that I don't own - is of course out in front early. It'll be interesting to see if it can stay there. I'm waiting to see what MS answer is to the failing HD-DVD. Will they go Blu-Ray?

The WII is still the king of the 7th generation,its going to take the PS3 5 years of solid sales to match the profits they made in the first year.

I still hate the PS3 as its currently priced and configured take 100$ off the 80GB model and 150 off the crappy 40GB model and it will be a better deal the 360 is also over priced by 100$.

The PS3 is going to lead the market in a year they have no place to go but up while the 360 can only get worse, the WII will pretty much maintain a nice chuck of the pie.

It is nice to see the PS3 finally start to pick up some real numbers. I'll agree with Zippy (and many others) that it is still overpriced, no matter which model.

I think the PS3 will only continue it's upward movement this coming year.

Overpriced? I was one of those people who had faith in the Playstation brand since day one and bought the $600 60 gig unit. You say overpriced I say one of the cheapest blu-ray players on the market.

Oh, i'm an avid Playstation fan. I had faith in them too. I shelled out the $500.00 for the 80GB model, and don't regret it(although i should have bought the 60GB when i had the chance). I think it could stand to be $100.00 cheaper, if not more on the 40Gb model.

I'm not complaining about the price, i bought one. What i'm saying is a bit of price drop would've boosted sales right out of the gate.

It only going to get better for the ps3, now with blue ray the De facto winner in the DVD race. PS3 is better technology with a bigger up side then the 360. I have both system and yes I play the 360 more, but after Haze, MGS4, and the new home network come out on the ps3. My 360 is going to start collecting dust.

it seems obvious that price is behind the drop in sales, therefore it's no surprise to me that ps2 is still selling like crazy.

i can agree that the ps3 is the console to watch, but 360 isn't old tech. wii is definitely not a fad that's dropping off, and will likely dominate at least another year of sales.

the average consumer would, obviously, rather buy one of the cheapest game consoles on the market, even if it doesn't even play dvd.
like many, i don't need (or want) a blu-ray player.

I work the stockroom at a local Walmart on weekends to help make ends meet and to this day we can't hardly keep Wii's in stock. They're gone as soon as we get them unlike the other two.

im not a big fan of ps3 personally i own 360 and i prefer the games but it is nice to see it not turn into the total bust it seemed it would at first besides i may get one one day the main reason being blueray players are more expensive than it but they can do the same

I talked to the electronics guy at Walmart the other day about the Wii and he said they get 7 in per week. =(
I don't know where they get sent but they aren't coming here very fast.

PS3 = no games
xbox 360 = good games

i bought a ps3 last weekend on a saterday and i took it back on a sunday because it does not match to the xbox 360 at all.

ohh am sorry ps3 fanboys ho say the ps3 has 8 prossesors and he 360 only has 3 so EDITED BY MODERATOR wat.

ps3 does not compare to the xbox 360 at all.

the online on the xbox is extremly slow and it has to update all the time takin about 7 mins each update.

unlike the xbox which take no more that 30 seconds each update and their not very often requered

and what is the point in blu ray yeah it is good but ho needs it ime happy with hd which is better because extras and menus.

the only thing that the ps3 is better at is that i looks better but what sort of hardcore gamer needs their console to look good ?

and you name me one good game that is on the ps3 that is not on the xbox ohh and dont say resistance fall of man because that is just crap i mean really crap and it is the same story with all the other ps3 exclusivs and look at the xbox 360 exclusive gears of war halo 3

This is probably because of all the Blu-ray hoopla that was being pushed on people during the months of December and January. It was a cheaper alternative to buying a 500 dollar standalone.

jkeryder First off watch you language, because if you can't I will gladly remove your account from aD. As for YOUR opinions, they are exactly that, your own. Not everyone feels the same way (Thank God) as you, personally I really don't like the 360 (though I own one as well as Wii, DC, PSP, PS3, PS2, PS1, Xbox and more) as all there is are FPS's. If I wanted that I will stick to my PC.

You want some great games? Sure he we go

1) Resistance Fall of Man - yep I put it as it IS a great game just because YOU don't like it does not mean it is a bad game.
2) Ratchet & Clank - high scoring title
3) Eye of Judgment - while not my kind of game it is amazing the interactivity and creativity this game is/has
4) FF13 & FF vs 13 - these games alone will be nothing short of amazing
5) GT5P & GT5 - this game is a BILLION dollar franchise for Sony whether you want to agree/believe or not understand
6) Haze
7) Killzone 2
8) Little Big Planet
9) MGS4 - since you didn't even mention this game I really should have just left this post alone
10) Motorstorm 1 & soon 2 - excellent, fun game
11) Uncharted Drakes Fortune - awesome graphics and game play to match

I could go on as there are SO many others but I know I am just wasting my time and breath with what I have already said. Especially when you think Halo 3 was "great". It might have sold well but that does not mean it is a good game in itself.

The stats always go up and down and sony may put a great fight in however with nintendo's wii still doing strong however i think the key is to try and keep competitor low if that means a tag team 2 against one mentality at first so be it then after the 3rd party disapears then you can focus on yourselves and your one and only opponent left in the market.
