60 percent of GTA IV sales were for Xbox 360?DVDBack23 @ May 08, 2008 22:36 | 35 comments
The software maker claimed that 3.75 million copies of the 6 million sold worldwide in the first week were for the Xbox 360 console and even added that the games helped push 360 sales 54 percent week-on-week, a gigantic surge.
Microsoft also noted that in the UK retailers were reporting "a strong attach rate between the game and console sales", claiming that at least 40 percent of new console sales were selling with a copy of the hit game.
"Grand Theft Auto IV has done phenomenally well this week with Xbox 360 version outselling PS3 in our stores," said Gerry Berkley, trading manager at Woolworths.
"Xbox 360 console sales have seen a big uplift off the back of Grand Theft Auto IV launching. It's clear our customers see Xbox 360 as a great console for this incredible game."
According to data by Chart-Track in the UK, GTA IV led the software sales charts selling about 927,000 copies. The next closest game, Wii's hit Wii Fit sold 103,000 copies for the week.

Comment by: wolf503 (May 09, 2008 11:47) unless ur speaking of the price to buy it xD than ya Xbox is generally cheaper, i prefer sony coz i been with them ever since PS1 and well it took Microsoft a while to fix the issue with the the frying Xboxes. that would have made a good mothers day gift and would have made making breakie easier xD |

Microsoft didnot pay 50 million dollars for exclusive content that will be released later for the Sony's PS3. That is not book sense. It is from what i read posted here on AD site and from my own COMMMON SENSE. What would it benefit Microsoft to pay that much money to get the downloadable content before Sony? Dude please think before you speak. Like i said before Xbox360 owners will get extras possible more missions downloadable via internet were those of you who unfortunately have the PS3 version will not get to experience. The graphics are identical,(i know there is some diff but anyone who says either version is better per graphics should be shot, You couldnot tell the diff between the versions unless you had them side by side so lay that crap to R.I.P.),and they are so close in all ways except the xbox has the rights to the exclusive downloabable content. So again i say Xbox version wins. |

Comment by: wetsparks (May 10, 2008 05:57) it was a $50 million loan, not just a check for $50 million. Take 2 has to pay it back and it was for some downloadable content for the 360 that will hit sometime this fall. It doesn't say anywhere that the ps3 won't get its own unique downloadable content later on, just that the 360 will get it first. As if "100+ hours of gameplay" wasn't enough for all of you. Not that it matters to me very much, i never understood the appeal of sand box games such as this. |

Comment by: Ryu77 (May 11, 2008 21:26) I've read many blogs on the net stating that the PS3 version of GTA IV is running at 640p (1152 x 640).

Only as an instant gratification-type purchase (and assuming your 360 still works), after you are tired with the game and realize you own a piece of hardware that is struggling to keep up with the times.. even after all the add-ons that would bring it to a "compareable" level with the PS3. The game has very few differences as many reviewers can tell you. People bitch about the HDD install for the PS3 because the load times dont seem to be affected. Fact of the matter is, that the HDD install significantly reduces the "pop up" effect with your surrounding environment. This does make the game look much smoother, but probably doesn't effect someone's decision to buy a next-gen console when the price is so different. I just feel bad for people who base a next-gen console purchase on a video game based on price and no research.

Quote: Well currently,at this time, the date is May 12, 2008 and at this time Xbox 360 does not struggle to keep up with the PS3 and there are no add-ons needed.
Quote: Please post a few links to support this. If you have seen or read it online you should have no problem posting a few links to support this. Otherwise I will believe what i have read at various sites and post on numerous websites. You can search and find the "exclusive" talk for GTA IV on Xbox 360. So why no supported truth that PS3 will get the downloable content later???.....

Quote: You can compound these issues with the fact that the system uses DVD-9 format discs and developers are running out of compression schemes to make titles fit on these discs (lost odessey anyone???). People will tell you how proud they are to stand up and insert disc 2, but the fact is that Sony thought ahead and won't have to worry about compression till much later... if at all.
