PS3 finds its rumble with DualShock 3Dela @ Apr 04, 2008 23:54 | 36 comments
The DualShock 3 costs $54.99, which is $5 more than the SIXAXIS currently goes for. A Sony representative told MTV that the SIXAXIS controller will not be available after it's completely sold through at retail, expected to be around summer. The U.S. release targeted the arrival of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, one of the most anticipated games for the PS3 platform.
Sony will change its PS3 model bundles to include a DualShock 3 controller instead of a SIXAXIS controller within the next few months. Additionally, the Metal Gear Solid 4 package will include the high-anticipated Title, an 80GB PlayStation 3 (PS3) console and a controller.

Comment by: PantherM (Apr 05, 2008 14:53) I'm glad it has rumble now...and I'me even more happy that the controller will be heavier. Too bad I purchased an extra regular sixaxis when I got my PS3 8 months ago.

Comment by: lxfactor (Apr 05, 2008 14:56) okay. i have a few cents. lol. first its new heavier and more sturdy? thats a good thing. its a new controller.. dont buy it if you dont want it. simple. i personally turn rumble off during online play.. because it can leave u with inaccurate shots (FPS). but games like resident evil.. the rumble adds and extra realness*. i remember what i was a kid i played resident evil 3.. and when the dogs jumped out and the controller rumbled i always got scared. but never the less it was a pretty good feature.. and as far as the name goes...

Comment by: DXR88 (Apr 05, 2008 20:56) You know in Honest truth i Still dont know what the big deal is with rumble. I know it helps with knowing when your hitting Somthing or vice versa, but if you have Decent sound system there is nother better than hearing you opponet sneaking up behind you only to get a bullet in the face. |

Comment by: milkyoreo (Apr 06, 2008 00:33) when I get my 60GB PS3 I am hoping to get a SIXAXIS Controller and a Dualshock 3 controller, so PS3 is gonna have a lot of successes now... its gonna be a PS3 year folks! |
Comment by: SDF_GR (Apr 06, 2008 00:44) Every PS1 & PS2 Controller that i have, i have opened and removed the 2 small vibration motors.

Comment by: viny1313 (Apr 06, 2008 03:10) Well now that I've been playing without rumble for so long, I couldn't care less... I really haven't noticed a difference. I don't know anyone who takes time to realize that the controller is rumbling instead of focusing on the game lol

Comment by: Hunt720 (Apr 06, 2008 07:00) The Dualshock3 is an improvement in my opinion vs. the Sixaxis. I like the slightly heavier feel and I will probably hang on to my older sixaxis controllers. Also, you can disable the rumble feature if it bothers you in a certain game or whatever... the only difference will be that it will feel slightly heavier.
Quote: .. I'm not sure where you got that particular info man... If you wikipedia Dualshock 3 you will get all the info on a the lawsuit that was the reason for the delay in development of the Dualshock 3. To summarize this lawsuit, it was Sony AND Microsoft vs. Immerson Technologies. This company developed the "spinning weights" used to create the vibration in controllers and thus had the patent. Microsoft decided to settle out of court, which is a euphemism for "pay them off" instead of facing a legal battle. Sony fought it and began developing the sixaxis technology as another avenue for gaming, hoping that they could still deliver another sensory technology in their console titles. This ended up costing them 82 million dollars and a suspension of the rumble feature in all products (PS1 and PS2 were also affected). This all went down in 2002, before either the 360 or the ps3 exsisted as we know them today. Microsoft was hell bent on producing their system first, and thus they decided to opt out of a lengthy court battle.. and I must admit that this probably saved them some serious money and hassle despite the other side effects of rushing the console.

Comment by: Propagand (Apr 08, 2008 20:42) lol well truthfully my PS3 is collecting dust, but im playing the heck out of it. Im just about always on it, its just a lil dusty. As for the sixaxis vs DS3 when i first used the 6xs i did notice how light it was. I also dont like how when i put it on my bed it falls over. There is nothing to support the L2 and R2 buttons. Rumble doesnt matter to me anymore, if this was 3 years ago I would want rumble bcuz it seemed lame without it but now its not fun to me. Im just going to buy another 6xs before they run out. Also if they discontinue the 6xs how will you play games like heavenly sword which require you to use it? Thats my biggest question. |

Comment by: Ryu77 (Apr 09, 2008 01:06) Propagand, the Dual Shock 3 will still have motion sensing. |
Comment by: Hunt720 (Apr 09, 2008 01:29) Originally posted by Ryu77: Yep! Ryu is right. My Dualshock 3 senses motion just the same.. I like that the added weight makes me feel how much I tilt in comparison to the ligher sixaxis! |
