Latest PS3 firmware adds DualShock3 support

DVDBack23 @ Oct 27, 2007 03:44 | 9 comments

The PlayStation 3's latest firmware, version 1.94, will finally add support for "rumbling force feedback controllers", a feature that many gamers have wanted since the console's introduction last year.

Although the force feedback DualShock 3 controllers wont hit North America until at least spring 2008, apparently the recently released "Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction" is the first game capable of sending a vibrating signal.

Other games set for release soon, such as Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune and Assassin’s Creed, will ship with the rumble code built in and current hit games such as "Resistance: Fall of Man" and "MotorStorm" will eventually see downloadable patches that will enable force feedback.

If you really want to try the new features out, you may want to import a Japanese DS3 controller which will hit the market next month.

Sound's good. I really don't care that the console didn't release with it because I would have bought a second controller anyways.

Nice, just to shut all of the 360 fanboy's up. I could go either way. I would be more interested in a Wii like controller. What should I duct tape the controller to a baseball bat?

Yea, but wheres the Dual Shock 3 Controllers? Hopefully this isn't like the thing with the PSP camera thats an option in US firmware but the camera isn't released in the US yet. (atleast 1 year)

The main reason I like this is b/c the sixaxis is too light its like a feather....I need to have something that has some weight to it. Several times playing I have lost grip of the controller b/c of sweaty hands..I think if it was heavier that it would stay in place

I agree that the ps3 control pad is too light as said by muccione, but i dont miss the rumble function,it hurt my wrists and left my hands feeling numb.
