US to see larger HDD Sony PlayStation 3?DVDBack23 @ Jan 29, 2008 05:15 | 29 comments
“Sony is, in fact, phasing out the 80GB PS3. Sony is going to stay with the two-SKU approach though, and the prices look to stay the same,” the source said. “The Spiderman 3 pack-in will disappear as well once the 80GB unit is gone. In order to maintain a similar value proposition to the 80GB/Spiderman 3 bundle, I expect to see a storage increase to 120 or 160GB at the same price point, plus the new Dual-Shock 3 controller...”
In response to the posting of Best Buy's memo, a Sony spokesperson gave an official "no comment". “I caught up with all of the posts and news last night, and as you know, we don't comment on rumors and speculation,” he added

Comment by: ericblood (Jan 29, 2008 17:08) I am new to all this Xbox and PS3. But please tell me why anyone would even need 40 gb hd let alone 120gb??. I have a 64mb mem card on the ps2 has tons of games on it. Why would you need 120 gb?? |
Comment by: armorthis (Jan 29, 2008 17:41) Originally posted by ericblood: The PS3 installs data from games on the hard drive a lot, this makes load times faster, and in some cases eliminates them all together. |
Comment by: glasssd (Jan 29, 2008 18:24) Originally posted by ericblood: You can download games to it, save movies, photos, music etc on it. |

For example Unreal Tournament 3 you can load to your hard drive and it drastically improves the load times almost eliminating them. SOOOOO before you call somebody a liar do your homework!

Comment by: ZippyDSM (Jan 30, 2008 01:22) Quote:Originally posted by Zippy: Only partially, without installing the extra data the games loads about the same as other PS3 titles that have faster loading times, the majority of PS3 titles load slowly or as fast as the 360,lil by lil the PS3 is becoming better but at this point and time one can not say its loading faster for all or most new games. |
Comment by: drumming (Feb 01, 2008 18:51) Quote:Quote:Originally posted by Zippy: Try a little experiment. Take a game that is on both systems. Compare load times and amount of detail. If you have more and better graphics with a slightly faster load time it's still better than the xbox. You can't even compare the two. Y?...... cuz the xbox doesn't have all the detail the PS3 has due to the lack of disc space. You can argue it all day but the reality is that the ps3 is and always will be faster. More games will come out with the hard drive option and you need the space in order to be able to play them. |
