Xbox 360 price cut coming to the UK?

DVDBack23 @ Sep 15, 2008 20:43 | 3 comments

The UK retailer Woolworths has declined comment on the rumors that have been swirling for days after scans from the company's upcoming holidays catalog showed a UK price cut across the board for all the Xbox 360 models.

The scans show the price cuts for the UK as GBP 129.99 for the Arcade model, 169.99 for the Premium model and 229.99 for the higher-capacity HDD Elite model.

"Woolworths will not comment directly on the speculation that has appeared on various gaming websites as it is commercially sensitive information," said the company.

"The Christmas 2008 Woolworths Big Red Book is not released until the first week of October and, until that date, remains a confidential document.

"There are several draft editions in existence, with prices, products and descriptions varying dependent on the draft."

We already are being shafted, even after taxes and import/shipping fees we pay the most on the planet for our hardware, which is why the companies block us from importing items. Remember the lame excuses from sony stating we may die if we import their electronics & levies stated it would destroy the desirability if prices were lowered for reasons to block imports:

Sony: lik-sang http://www.lik-sang.com/

ultimately, we're trying to protect consumers from being sold hardware that does not conform to strict EU or UK consumer safety standards

levies: http://www.allbusiness.com/retail-trade/.../4249062-1.html

because they have invested large sums building up the mystique of exclusive luxury products

Apple: http://www.channelregister.co.uk/2008/04..._ipods_etailer/

Apple just said that they wanted to make more money, so good on them for the honesty.

Most computer/console Games and DVD's are region locked (also via credit card checks) and with the introduction of the ACTA, will be illegal and punishable by criminal courts if you either import goods or try to make your equipment multi region, thanks to the MPAA/RIAA

Trade mark owners can block imports: the European Court of Justice gives a seminal ruling that strengthens the powers of brand owners. (Bird & Bird)

Quote:
The European Court of Justice (ECJ) has given its long-awaited judgment in these two cases, which both concerned the rights of brand owners to control the importation (and hence the price) of their products within the European Economic Area (EEA).

what can we do about it, don't purchase over inflated items from "c u next tusday" corporate scum, who feel its ok to rip off the British populous by saying, "oh tax and economics and shipping is the reason" bull to cover up their greed.
