PlayStation 3 firmware update will bring DTS-HD Master Audio upgrade

DVDBack23 @ Apr 11, 2008 05:15 | 1 comment

Sony has announced that after months of speculation the latest PlayStation 3 Firmware upgrade will add DTS-HD Master Audio output for Blu-ray titles.

The latest update, version 2.30, will add the format which is "capable of delivering audio that is bit-for-bit identical to the studio master at super high variable bit rates, DTS-HD Master Audio has been included in several stand-alone Blu-ray players, but its availability on the PS3 will for the first time bring full spectrum premium audio to the masses."

It is important to note that not all Blu-ray releases even include DTS-HD Master Audio tracks but there are over 100 current titles that have the superior audio format including each of Fox's releases.

Sony notes the firmware update will be available on April 15th.
