Sony restocks 60GB PS3 onlineDela @ Sep 03, 2007 22:13 | 29 comments
Sony's Dave Karraker said previously that there was no 60GB inventory remaining in in SCEA warehouses as they had all been shipped to retailers. Karraker also remarked that the US$599 80GB PS3 bundle may be reduced down to $499 once the complete supply of the 60GB version sells out.
Sony's PlayStation 3 (PS3) console has been trailing the success of the Nintendo Wii console, mainly due to the units high price. Sony has backed the price of its console and is still confident that in the coming years, it will take the lead and eventually the PlayStation brand will take the generation for the third time running.

Comment by: kyo28 (Sep 04, 2007 04:22) Actually, the backward compatibility of the PS3 with emulation is very good. I've seen no noticeable problems in all the games I've tried and some of them even look better thanks to upscaling (like God of War). So basically, I think this is a moot point.

Comment by: BIGnewb (Sep 04, 2007 06:35) unlike xbox360 ps3 reads all ps2 and ps1 games.xbox360 plays 80 percent of the xbox games for example some of the 2k. sports series. |
Comment by: kishan73 (Sep 04, 2007 09:31) I must admit, I've had my 360 repaired twice now. They finally sent me a new unit this time. I still prefer my 360 over my PS3. I wouldn't know if my PS3 has any heating issues as I don't play it enough. I have all of the best games available for my PS3 (Resistance, Ninja Gaiden and Lair) and they don't compare to the fun I have on my 360. Sony is constantly improving the PS3 and soon it'll be on par with what the 360 offers (online play, movie & game downloads, etc..) but all in all, for the $, my 360 is the way better value. |
Comment by: ChromeMud (Sep 04, 2007 09:52) Lets face it,the PS3 is so difficult to program that porting a game from a 360 is a business decision to maximise profit.A lot of developers won't care about maximising performance but instead will get it to a quality standard that is acceptable for retail with the minimal amount of development time and cost.

Comment by: wrules (Sep 04, 2007 10:32) yeah i agree with you a bit. It takes to long to port games on to ps3, rainbow six vegas is an example and it doesn't even look a good as the xbox 360 version but in the future excellent games will only be available on ps3 like warhawk. |
Comment by: muccione (Sep 04, 2007 15:08) The problem is that the PS3 has more power than the DEV's computers. The Devs need to upgrade there computers to be more powerful than the PS3, But that would cost a ton of money |

Comment by: Unfocused (Sep 04, 2007 19:28) If they were sold out and had no inventory, how come they all of a sudden have stock? |

And I wonder how many 360s they have had to replace... It is common knowledge in the PS3 world. It was removed to cut cost...You have to DL an emulator to get BWC but not all games are covered. Its like the 360 |

Comment by: ghowes (Sep 09, 2007 09:31) This thread seems to be getting off-track. The reason Sony had to re-stock the PS3 in Sonystyle is because it made an offer that was hard to refuse...

Comment by: borhan9 (Sep 10, 2007 19:19) I wish they could make up their mind. but i figure maybe they are bringing it back because they can have a console priced to cut the lead for the wii. |
Comment by: nobrainer (Sep 12, 2007 05:02) Originally posted by wetsparks: the 80 gig ps3 costs less to manufacture than the 60gig as the new improved ps3 has had the ps2 emotion engine removed, dam right it should be sold for less atm its a complete fu to customers as you can purchase the 80gig hard drive yourself for $30 and upgrade your 60 to 80 very easily and cheaply!
