at least the ps3 doesn't have any faults, like the overheating problem. You shouldn't need to leave your power brick on a flat surface to stop it from breaking

Actually, the backward compatibility of the PS3 with emulation is very good. I've seen no noticeable problems in all the games I've tried and some of them even look better thanks to upscaling (like God of War). So basically, I think this is a moot point.

Since we're talking about freezing games and so on, has the 360 fixed the overheating issue yet? The PS3 is more expensive, yes, but in the end you do get what you pay for. 33% failure rate is too high a risk for me so I prefer to go with brands that at least care about their products performance (like Nintendo and Sony)

well you must live in the us or asia and have a machine with the ee hardware because b/c in the uk sucks and as you can see from SONY'S official b/c list the amount of top AAA+ games that have issues outnumbers those that don't.

unlike xbox360 ps3 reads all ps2 and ps1 games.xbox360 plays 80 percent of the xbox games for example some of the 2k. sports series.

I must admit, I've had my 360 repaired twice now. They finally sent me a new unit this time. I still prefer my 360 over my PS3. I wouldn't know if my PS3 has any heating issues as I don't play it enough. I have all of the best games available for my PS3 (Resistance, Ninja Gaiden and Lair) and they don't compare to the fun I have on my 360. Sony is constantly improving the PS3 and soon it'll be on par with what the 360 offers (online play, movie & game downloads, etc..) but all in all, for the $, my 360 is the way better value.

Lets face it,the PS3 is so difficult to program that porting a game from a 360 is a business decision to maximise profit.A lot of developers won't care about maximising performance but instead will get it to a quality standard that is acceptable for retail with the minimal amount of development time and cost.
Developers really couldn't give a f##k about CELLS complex architecture and would rather have efficient software tools and libraries to reduce the time it takes to create a game.
That's why I rate Microsofts business decision to concentrate on it's XNA development software that wipes the floor with what Sony provides for it's gaming platform.
Sony offers the most powerful hardware with the weakest development software.It basicaly means that there will only be rare occasions where a game might shine on the PS3 but it will always be riddled with shoddy,second rate ports.Not too good for a console that is the most expensive to buy.It will always be in third place but then Sony thought it was cool to be in that THIRD place some time ago...

yeah i agree with you a bit. It takes to long to port games on to ps3, rainbow six vegas is an example and it doesn't even look a good as the xbox 360 version but in the future excellent games will only be available on ps3 like warhawk.

The problem is that the PS3 has more power than the DEV's computers. The Devs need to upgrade there computers to be more powerful than the PS3, But that would cost a ton of money

whats the point in purchasing a ps3 when you can play mostly all the games for over $200 less on a 360, which also has a larger second hand game market.

Then if you do purchase the new "IMPROVED" 80 gig, which is more money for less hardware as the emotion engine has been removed so backwards compatibility is iffy at best. Then you have the DRM in the ps3 that is BD+ reporting your usage back to the studios including your serial number, ip location and films/games played, all in the name of preventing piracy, that old scare tactic that no body believes, just like "terrorism would increase if we withdrew now", scare tactics to assure their agenda!

Then you have sony doing absolutely no B/C updates for ps2 games in europe since the stories have dropped out the press, which is just what D Reeves said would happen, so i guess he can tell the truth somtimes!

I think Sony's just trying to check the market and see what consumers are willing to pay and how they can change the PS3 schematics in order make a profit in the near (now) future. $499 is still a lot of cash-o-la for system that DOES NOT come with HDMI cable, Headset, or Remote control.

You can get all that and more for almost $200 less with an Xbox360. Granted, it might break down & overheat on you but for under $10 you can buy a Badd-Ass fan from Target/K-Mart that'll work wonders (haha!) and keep your house cool!!!

1. I'm not posting Sony public relations spins. It's a fact that the PS3 (and the Wii as well) have a much lower failure rate than the 360. Telling the truth is not spinning lies.
2. I did check that list and over 85% of titles it seems have 3 squares, meaning perfect emulation is achieved. The other games vary from having slight problems to big issues. My PS3 is Japanese and emulates perfectly. Still beats the % of backward compatibility the 360 has.

It is common knowledge in the PS3 world. It was removed to cut cost...You have to DL an emulator to get BWC but not all games are covered. Its like the 360

get one if you want i couldn't care less but personally i'd w8 until there are games worth playing on it and the next price drop as the 80gig ps3 costs less to produce than the 60gig so expect a big drop at Christmas time so sony pr can claim victory in the hardware sales, as you wont be playing many ps2 games on the ps3 due to lackluster support from sony

it is a chip in the ps3 that has been taken from the ps2 to enable full backwards compatibility.

i know the sony pr argument about playing old games on a new machine is pointless and the ps3 is for ps3 only "cool next gen" games but when you have over 70 ps2 titles and the machine that was supposed to enhance all playstation games wont even play them because of sony cost cutting and removing hardware makes you a little annoyed, especially when it cost more than any other country to purchase and sony blocked all imports from shops like http://www.lik-sang.com/ and sued them to oblivion to keep the price fixing scam so euro subsidises the rest of the world, after such an investment in the company you expect to be treated with respect.

us in europe have never had one as we were short changed by sony on release. they are now doing emulation through updates but the support for games is poor at best. most of them have graphical issues and just lock up so you have to keep using your ps2 to play your old games not the ps3 as sony marketed it as which is a problem in properties unless you live in an old Victorian home with plenty of space.

there are 2 tabs 1 for ps1 and the other for ps2, you can see from the list just how bad the software emulation actually is and the updates have been poor at best so there is no way you can get rid of your ps2 to tidy up your home or to partial fund new hardware/software.

in the list it states that ratchet and clank works with no issues but its a crock of s#@t as with many others it fails to play.

This thread seems to be getting off-track. The reason Sony had to re-stock the PS3 in Sonystyle is because it made an offer that was hard to refuse...

If you apply for their credit card, and are approved, you will get a $150 rebate (in 8-12 weeks) on anything purchased from Sonystyle site, including PS3.

In addition, because it's a Sony credit card you can also apply the "Sony Points" immediately to the purchase and at the time they were giving 8 points (cents) per dollar spent for an additional $42.82 credit (I think the normal is 5 points per dollar).

OH, and free shipping (although taxes were $30)

So in the end you can get a PS3 for $499 + $30 tax - $150 rebate - $42.82 Sony points credit = $336.18.

This more than anything else is what caused the run on PS3s at the Sonystyle site, and people should not read into it anything more. Myself, I'd prefer an XBox360 Elite with HDDVD attachment, but just couldn't resist the price of PS3.

BTW, according to FedEx mine will be delivered TOMORROW! Woot!
