Premium Xbox 360s now shipping with HDMI port

DVDBack23 @ Aug 08, 2007 20:38 | 28 comments

According to Shacknews, Microsoft has confirmed that their new reduced price Premium Xbox 360 consoles will also be shipping with a new HDMI port.

Yes, we are offering an HDMI port for Xbox 360 simply as another choice in Xbox 360 owners’ games and entertainment experience," a Microsoft rep told Shacknews in an e-mailed statement. "Retailers are gradually introducing HDMI-enabled Xbox 360s into the channel to meet demand."

Microsoft representatives however did say that the Core system would not be receiving the same treatment as the Premium systems. "We have not announced any plans to add HDMI to the Xbox 360 Core System."

Until this week, only the Elite system had an included HDMI port, but now with a price drop, added HDMI port, and free extended warranties, Microsoft seems to be doing itself a lot of good nowadays.

If you know where to look, you can get HDMI cables for a decent price and good quality.

over at the AVSForum, these cables get some good reviews and a hell of a lot cheaper than the crap you buy at walmart or best buy.

You could get hdmi cables for $20, it's just a scam when they sell them for $100. The only difference is that the $20 cables might not be as long and won't be gold plated but the quality is ll the same.

There isn't a point for the elite because if you want the 120 hdd you could ebay it for less and i think it looks better in white. I think everything looks better in white; ipod,360,ds lite, laptops,PCs,headphones, etc
I don't know why people like black so much on things the only thing it looks better on is tvs and thats about on 80% of tvs

With the premium now recieving HDMI and with the recent price drop it might now be finally time for me to get one instead of having to save up for the Elite. I say thanks Microsoft.

What do you mean... because their adding the hdmi to all the sku's? They're updating their consoles AND lowering the retail price. You make it sound like that's a bad thing.

But hey... if that's what you think then I got a launch console I'll sell you for $600 and I'll even throw in a 13" black and white tv :)

"Yes.
But it's black, dude.
And...and the volume goes up to 11.
Isn't that cool enough?"

i know i've seen sony fan boys hoppin on this thread i think its koo giving ppl the option of either component or hdmi nice addition wish it was already added on relase day but ohwell at least they are lowering prices and giving u the option depending on ur tv. Sony looks to be in trouble here figuring 360 has mostly the same games and half the price. Sony lower your prices to 400 or 450 and ur on top.....

Very true.
Then again, if they don't know whether they want HDMI, nothing's going to un-confuse them.

How many more changes and peripherals can they add to the Sega Genesis? Oops, this the 360? My bad. I got them confused. :-)

(Before you flame me, I own a launch day 360 and will settle for my analog output component cables!)

Wow, you guys pay $30 - 50 for a regular HDMI digital cable?!
What for?

HDMI will be nice for that minority of TV/display owners who have HD & and HDMI connection.

Personally I see it as another handy connection on my HD TV but I find those that rave about this as if it were some kind of unmissable essential way off of the mark.

.....and I think that those who imagine Microsoft should not even change or develop their hardware are day-dreaming pointless day-dreams.

Anyways HDMI has already been over-taken.
Give me Display Port!

Can't people just get over the fact that all consoles are going to evlove? It's a result of determining what the customer wants and improving on deficiencies, while at the same time trying to cut the cost of production, AND at the same time make the customer happy. Part of the see-saw regarding HDMI is the infancy of the technology. Someone who is going to whine and complain should not buy consoles on release date, or even in the first year. And if you do decide to, don't complain. You should have already accepted the risk.

Well, yes...as is Sony. Do they know what they are doing? Probably not, as well as Sony. Are they trying? Yes. Are they successful? That is under debate. I'm happy with the announcement. I decided to wait before buying, and now I'm just sitting back enjoying the show :-P

Good idea by Microsoft but whats going to give people even more reason to buy a elite?

I've read that the Elite is a limited time only console, and eventually the Premium will take the place of the Elite. The black case is temporary too, as the new premiums will remain white. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it will eventually be phased out.

If Microsoft want to sell consoles they need to discontinue the white one bring the Elite to $400

Are you KIDDING me? the Elite is pointless, I don't even see how you could have 120GB of game updates for games that are only on DVD9's.

Are you KIDDING me? the Elite is pointless. The only why you would even need 120GB of HD space on a console is because of game updates/demos.I don't even see how you could have 120GB of game updates for games that are only on DVD9's.

DVD9 really don't have anything to do with the size of the HD its the LIVE network content that you can download Ex.movies, game demos,& Music etc......

The XBOX 360 as a unit will have those. Not just a specific model. You just have to wait until the Fall. Confirmation will come in an Afterdawn news article most likely some time in the Fall.

Will be possible to play Xbox 360's games with the Playstation 3 or viceversa ?

any comments?

Comment by: spydah (Aug 10, 2007 20:18)

I dont that is going to happen. Each company is to money crazy to allow the competitor to play their games on their system. Plus each format is different and would cause all kinds of issues.

Comment by: borhan9 (Aug 17, 2007 21:37)

Its good to have the HDMI addition however you need to have a TV that has this port as well.
