Sony apologizes for Emmy mistake

Dela @ Jan 12, 2007 10:25 | 11 comments

Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) has issued a statement apologizing for the mix-up which led to the company incorrectly claiming it won an Emmy for the Sixaxis controller technology. The company instead was awarded the Technology and Engineering trophy for the design of the DualShock controller. The company blames the error on a "miscommunication".

The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences had contradicted the earlier report from Sony. "I would like to confirm that Sony did not win for their PS3 controller, they won for their Dual Shock analog controller." a spokesperson said at the time.

"In a press release dated January 8, 2007, SCEA announced we had been recognized by NATAS with a Technology and Engineering Emmy Award for the Sixaxis wireless controller." A Sony statement reads. "Due to miscommunication between the two organisations, this information was incorrectly reported."

The company goes on to confirm its win for the DualShock technology and apologizes for the confusion it caused.

Sony is getting worse and worse in these matters. They are becoming habitual truth benders and are really doing a disservice to consumers by confusing and misleading us. I am to the point now that my electronic dollars are going to companies other than Sony. I'm not going to back this company with my money if they can't tell me the truth.

Sony makes great TVs and I havent seen anything that would make me buy another brand. They need to get out of anything software related tho.

There are better TV's out there than Sony. Unless you are comparing it to the Walmart special.

They apologized, lets move on. It's not that big of a deal to begin with.

Sorry to disagree with you chubbyInc but when it comes to LCD TV's Sony IS the KING but if you are talking about Plasma then there are several others that are better. Of course most mfg's only sell one or the other Samsung and Sony are one of the few that operate in both arena's.

I normally will not buy Sony products because of there shotty tactics but in this case I would buy their LCD TV.

I'm surprised that Sony has apologized for something that has to be a first, I'm marking it on the calendar.

Maybe they need to sing the sorry song. If you do not know what it is it is a Calvin and Hobbes thing.

Who cares if sony apologized, if they weren't outed by the news story they would still be bantering obout thier emmy.

I agree with Mr-Movie sony makes one of the best TVs I have owned. I have a 60" Lcd running DVI cables and the Picture is Just as good as my 50" DLP samsung 1080p thru HDMI.
