Console games announced

Siggy @ May 10, 2006 02:56

The console war is ready to begin, as all the major home consoles bump up their upcoming games list in the E3 and pre-E3 conferences. All of the three companies have their reliable hit game series and plenty of new "even greater and more innovative" games. This news article rather than once again brings up the discussion about console names, prices or architecture, summarizes the games already announced for the future consoles.

Sony held its pre-E3 press conference where the main focus was on the unveiled controller with motion sensing capabilities and the pricing of PS3, but there are several interesting releases already announced for the PS3 including few major series titles such as Final Fantasy XIII, Tekken 6 and Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, the other games include Sci-Fi shooters Warhawk and Resistance: Fall of Man and beat'em up game Heavenly Sword.

Nintendo announced the first wave of games for its next-gen console Wii. In the pre-E3 press conference, Nintendo revealed its long-running favourite game series' Super Mario Galaxy and Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess to be released for Wii. The Zelda sequel will be also released simultaneously on GameCube. Other titles released on the first wave include Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, Fire Emblem, WarioWare: Smooth Moves and a number of all-new game titles such as action games Disaster: Day of Crisis and Project H.A.M.M.E.R. and arcade racer Excite Truck.

Now that we've looked at PS3's and Wii's first wave, it's time for Xbox 360 second wave of games. Microsoft held its pre-E3 press conference in the Graumann's Chinese Theater where it announced continues the two flag-bearing series. Alongside with Halo 3 and Grand Theft Auto IV, Fable and Forze Motorsports both get a sequel, Fable 2 coming from the new member of Microsoft game team, Lionhead Studios. Shadowrun, based on a pen-and-paper game, will be released at the launch of Windows Vista and will allow Xbox 360 and Vista users to play each other in multiplayer. The Remedy-developed Alan Wake will be released exclusively for the Xbox 360 and Vista. Xbox Live Arcade will get also plenty of new games including Pac-Man, Contra and Sonic The Hedgehog High Speed.

The E3 is open for three days, closing its doors on Friday, May 12. We are going to follow the Expo closely and report on major news.
