DVDBack23 @ Dec 28, 2009 06:12 | 8 comments

Best Buy has started a promotion this week that will offer a free $50 gift card with the purchase of an Xbox 360 and an additional 360 Wireless Controller. The promotion is for the Elite Winter Bundle.

Amazon has slashed the price of the Xbox 360 Arcade to $180, a $20 price cut.

Additionally, a Xbox Live 12-Month Gold Card was dropped to $40, down from $50.

ZippyDSM, can you tell me where I could find a year of Live for that price?

amazon sometimes drops the live price to around 35.00. You just have to look everyday :P

Wow...that puts the price of an Elite at less than $200 if you figure the price of the games, the giftcard, and the extra controller. I guess Xbox360 is now slightly cheaper than PS3...at least for the first year.

Troll the net google shop, amazon and ebay it can be done but its more rare than it should be, I swear if I am a business and buy 1000 cards/keys I should get a 30% or more discount then when you resale to liquidate them in a timely manner you sale them for 25-30$ making sure the majority make you even with what I bought the rest bring a profit it works with OEM discs/keys MS should do the same...

An Elite costing $200 is kinda irrelevant if that Elite is only sold in a $345 ($45 Controller + $300 System). I doubt they'll let you apply the gift card to the current purchase so the only way to say it's $50 off is if you sold that Gift Card to someone for face value. If you use it to buy something else, that doesn't change the fact that you laid out $345 for the system... which is $45 more than a PS3.

On top of that the bundled games are Lego Batman and a mediocre racer and you didn't get a free Blu-Ray Player like the PS3 "bundle" includes.

$20 off the Arcade is a good deal though. That legitimately lowers the price you have to pay to own the system and play games. You could take that extra $120 and buy some games that are actually good or at least games that you want.
