PlayStation 3 production doubles

DVDBack23 @ Aug 05, 2009 16:03 | 15 comments

According to the DigiTimes, Sony has ordered enough supplies for one million PS3 consoles for the Q3 2009, a number double the quarter before it.

The news has led to even more speculation that a Slim PS3 is coming this month, alongside an imminent price cut on current models.

The announcement is expected at the GamesCom event on August 18th, where Sony will have a three-hour press conference.

Earlier this week, Amazon dropped the price of the 160GB Uncharted bundle by $50 USD, prompting even more speculation of a price cut coming.

good bye $400 ps3 hello $200 ps3 slim...

My ps3 has been down for about 4 months now and i havent been playing ever since ... i think that the disc reader burned out because it wont read any discs from ps3 games to cd's to dvd's to blueray. the ps3 turns on and im able to play demos just not the games i actually bought for 60 dollars a piece. $150 to get it fixed, id be better off with saving that 150 for a new ps3...

I definitely getting another one of these when they're released.

Not sure how fast I would get a second one. Probably isn't a way to register it with the same account as my first one. Then I wouldn't have the same games or be able to copy saves for disc-based games. I'd probably have to go through some game share process to move DLC back and forth.

Just login on the new PS3 with your account and re-download all your DLC (that's what I did for my 2nd PS3 I won in a contest). There are only a small portion of titles that devs make which lock gamesaves to the original PS3 so that shouldn't be that big of a deal. BUT I have heard that PS Cloud might address this issue (though I honestly don't think so).

Cool but how bout giving some actual info as to why you think this will happen. I dont think they will be one top again anytime soon. Maybe years down the road. Possible to catch Microsoft but Nintendo? Hell nope. Not in sales. You need to google the number of consoles sold to date and be realistic about things.

LOL.. exactly what hostility are you speaking of. All i did was give my opinion of your post and ask you basically to elaborate as to why you think sony will be back on top again and shed some light as to exactly how this will come to be. The reason i asked was because you posted something that i believe will never happen and without at least elaborating and trying to support your opinion the post was kinda fanboyish. I dont mind you rooting for a particular console, company whatever. To each his own so can you elaborate as to how you think sony will end up catching total sales of the Wii b/c i dont think it is a realistic view. Im just being real.

@Emran, Go away.

I think the release of the slim PS3 will boost the sales of the console as the only issues with the market purchasing the console previously was the large price margin between it and it's competitors. but now, that should be eliminated, providing the prices actually do go down AND the slim version of the console is released. Also, for all you people thinking about swapping HDD's with the new PS3, we don't know if it'll accept the fat HDD yet.

I hope when/if they announce the slim PS3, it has backwards compatibility to the PS2 (as it should be) and optional HDD sizes (i.e. 40gb and 80gb models). But that's just me hoping. XD
