Wii and DS boost Nintendo profits

Nintendo has gotten a boost in profits thanks to demand for the Wii console and DS handheld. The company's net profits grew 77.2% to 174.3bn yen (US$1.4bn) in the year to 31 March and sales grew 90%. In the year, Nintendo sold 23.56 million DS consoles and hopes that figure will stay around the same for this year. Nintendo also hopes to sell 14 million Wii consoles in 2007/8, after selling 5.84 million in the year to March (since launch).

Nintendo share prices have doubled in the last year thanks to the success of its latest products. The products currently sold by the company aim to also appeal to casual gamers or even consumers who have never tried games consoles more than a handful of times. "The video game industry is now on a growth path," the company said.

Nintendo's Wii currently has two powerful rivals; Sony's PlayStation 3 (PS3) and Microsoft's Xbox 360, but its lower price tag, innovation in control and differing views for "next generation" has helped it to outsell both since it was released.

Wii reach half way to xbox 360. and demands still high. I have feeling Wii is going to be the top this year.

NO Kidding. 6.7 Million Units in 6 months (according to http://nexgenwars.com/). They are on target to do 12 to 14 million if they keep this up. I have like 6 people hounding me to try and find them one just because I got mine the week it came out. Like I have some sort of inside connection or something.

i just think its funny becouse people keep calling the Wii a non next gen console lol and there beating there compitition.
all i really hope for is they bring out some more great games becouse asoon as i see them imma pick one up to go along my 360

and the best selling console currently is non current gen.

PS2: 280,000 Xbox360: 199,000 Wii: 259,000 PS3: 130,000

This is exactly why i love Nintendo's new products and that was not very easy for me to say cause i was a Sega fan, back in the day. I have to say Nintendo's console is on my shopping list after i finalize the build on my computer.
