Nintendo is tops in hardware sales in Japan

DVDBack23 @ Apr 16, 2007 09:59 | 7 comments

According to the data tracker Media Create, Nintendo consoles continue to hold the top spots in Japanese sales charts.

For the week ending April 8th, sales of the Nintendo DS and DS Lite rose a staggering 28 percent to reach 110,935 units and Wii sales rose to 52,583. Another data tracker, Enterbrain, tagged total sales of the Wii in Japan at 2 million as of April 13.

Somewhat surprisingly, the Sony PSP came in third, selling 31,503 units.

Only 14,520 PlayStation 3 were sold during the week and that brings the total to 826,000. PlayStation 2 sales dropped to 14,234 units.

The Xbox 360 rounded out the market with a lowly 2963 units sold for a total of only 346,500 units sold since the console was launched in December 2005.

Not surprising. Big N is heading straight back to the top with that machine.
Now they can afford to pump millions into R&D to come up with something a lot more powerful with an affordable price and the same amount of fun and innovation for the next cycle.

I think sony and Microsoft will be more weary next time they don't take the challenge that Nintendo brings to the table. I say well don't to Nintendo.

I disagree the GC was a powerhouse it was superior to the ps2 graphically and it wasn't too far in graphical capability from the xbox. just take a look at the metroid games.
The N64 had graphics that the psx couldn't match so in that sense their style is power and fun. The wii really is a departure focusing one on game play.

TO true the GC was more powerful than the PS2 and a bit less so than the Xbox, the N64 was near perfect but the lack of a CD drive hurt it thusly but it was really the first mainstream power based system till the DC or PS2 came out.
