Sony is considering a PS3 with larger HDDDVDBack23 @ Apr 16, 2007 09:36 | 23 comments
This latest comment again opens up the rumor mill that began last month when Sony filed an FCC application that includied references to an 80 GB model.
The spokesperson, Satoshi Fukuoka said the decision is "in line with our strategy as we had planned to choose models based on consumer needs".
"[the company]is considering introducing the model with a bigger hard disk" stated Fukuoka as well. He declined to comment further.
With the recent discontinuation of the 20 GB model in North America, it will be interesting to see what is in store for the PS3.

Comment by: pisho (Apr 16, 2007 10:33) From 60GB to 80GB, there isnt much point in making a newer model for an extra 20GB. If there going to do this atleast make it 120GB or more |
Comment by: azndrake (Apr 16, 2007 11:06) its gonna be either 120 gig or 160 just fyi. |

Comment by: ps2racer (Apr 16, 2007 12:07) ZIppyDSM, you are right they need to drop the price and quit playing with the HD size. If the comsumer whats a bigger HD let them upgrade it becouse you can get a 500GB HD for about $120 to $150. ZIppyDSM, you are so right. |
Comment by: NexGen76 (Apr 16, 2007 12:24) But if the change the HDD to 80gig standard with no price hike then i don't see a problem....... |

Comment by: ps2racer (Apr 16, 2007 12:55) A good entry price would be $350 for the PS3. There is no way I will buy a PS3 for more than that. |
Comment by: jutsu (Apr 16, 2007 13:35) i prefer Sony lower the PS3 price rather than making it have bigger HDD wth same price |
Comment by: ZippyDSM (Apr 16, 2007 13:41) Originally posted by SProdigy: the PS3 will be worth while in a couple years but its main issue will always be price at best I see it lowering about 40 every 18ish months so in acouple years it will come down 40-80, but even if it had as many games as the 360 I still would hesitate to blow 600 on it.. |
Comment by: 21Q (Apr 16, 2007 16:25) as long as the hd is 160gb, im happy |
Comment by: vinny13 (Apr 16, 2007 17:08) 120-160GB? That sounds great. It's basicly copying M$, but all that extra space isn't useless. You can do a lot more on a PS3 with a 120GB HDD compared to a 360 with a 120GB HDD. I have no idea why an Xbox would need a 120GB HDD(unless your crazy about trailers, you got money, or it's modded and has no Live because M$ cought you :P) |
Comment by: riplord (Apr 16, 2007 21:19) I don't know, maybe this is a bad idea. But maybe if they just sold a barebones 60gb ps3 with no hd, and the consumer could just get his own would be kinda nice. |
Comment by: borhan9 (Apr 17, 2007 01:15) On Friday night i went to a friends place dor a meeting and they had the new ps3. The games looked good to play and all but when i actually looked properly at the screen i saw that the graphics looked like the same as the ps2. I asked my friends why is the graphics like that and they said because their TV did not support HD-TV so i gather if you are going to get this you should not just look at hdd space you should look at am i getting what i paid for. |
Comment by: cpants21 (Apr 17, 2007 01:59) maybe sony should focus on tryin to make a ps3 that is fully functioning like the Wii or Xbox360 before they try to give it a bigger HDD. a bigger HDD isnt going to make it work any better |
Comment by: fsfd1 (Apr 17, 2007 13:12) If you cant afford the 600 dollar price tag why dont you just shut up and stop crying about the hard drive size. this system offers a blu ray player and i cant see one any cheaper on the market at the minute i think this system is worth every dollar |
Comment by: tabletpc (Apr 18, 2007 01:23) ok upgrade the hard drive and make the console cheaper or dont bother at all because there is no way in hell i would pay 700.00 for a ps3 because look at the xbox 360 elite microsoft had to price it at 479.99 do to it's huge hard drive if sony places a 500 gig hard drive in there console the price will jump a addition 200.00 or worse

Comment by: vinny13 (Apr 18, 2007 16:22) I hate people that complain about the price. You either have the money or you don't. If you don't, don't start crying over it, and if you don't even like PlayStation, why should you care?
"Mmmmm! Your tears are so yummy!"

Comment by: rz52 (May 22, 2007 21:30) I could see sony charging $600 for the new 80gb and droping the price on the 60gb by $50 or $100. I read that the new 80gb will have video on demand service. |
