PS3 firmware upgrade at EU launch

Siggy @ Mar 20, 2007 08:18 | 10 comments

Sony has announced firmware upgrade for the launch of PlayStation 3 in Europe. The v1.60 firmware features patches for backwards compatibility, Folding@home connectivity, background downloading and internet browsing. The company also launched the PS3 Compatibility Site that lists PS2 games playable with the new European hardware PS3 model.

The firmware upgrade will be available at midnight on March 22 via PlayStation Network, http://www.PlayStation.com, or for those without access to the internet, on a disc from local customer service.

The version 1.60 features support for Bluetooth keyboards and mice, and an additional QWERTY on-screen keyboard, as well as background downloading for up to six items simultaneously. Folding@home feature allows PS3 owners to sign up to Stanford University's program by clicking the logo on the XMB (XrossMediaBar), and contribute while the console is in idle mode.

"Stanford University’s Folding@home program, a distributed computing project aimed at understanding protein folding, misfolding, and related diseases, such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and many cancers. Using the power of the Cell Broadband Engine™, PS3 system can perform computer simulations for the Folding@home program ten times faster than your average home PC."

Wow this really Sucks!!!
I just checked the compatibility list and it says

Kingdom Hearts - Should play on PLAYSTATION®3 with noticeable issues
Onimusha 3 - Should play on PLAYSTATION®3 with noticeable issues

and not only that but guess what? in the compatibility web it apears that:
Should play on PLAYSTATION®3 with noticeable issues
translates to spanish in
Compatible con PLAYSTATION®3 pero con problemas esporádicos
wich if you translate it with google translation means
Compatible with PLAYSTATION®3 but with sporadic problems

hahahahaha what a joke!!! they dont even care what is posted on their website

£250 and easy backups i hear that. looking through the list is more depressing sony hiding the truth i mean all the ff series are glitch at best and ff12 that was only release 3 weeks ago isn't compatible i mean wtf

Some noticeable titles tha have glitches were

GTA San Andreas
The Madden series
Killzone
MGS snake eater
the need for speeds
prince of persia
RE4
(And there's no guitar hero, period)

Although I'm sure half of those aren't as popular in Europe as they are in North America.

It's going to take more than a year to fix ps3. Still not complete system.

O.o check this out
The Cell Broadband Engine in the PS3 is powerful enough to be useful for the ambitious Folding@Home project, says Sony. Originally announced a few days ago, the firmware update will be able to perform calculations and simulations for the research at 20 - 30 times faster than an average PC.

cant believe the ps3 is 20-30 times what a AVG pc can do.
