PS3 price goes up in GreeceDela @ Feb 22, 2007 21:35 | 25 comments
The console was expected to have a blanket price across the European countries of €499 for the 20GB model and €599 for the 60GB model. Both British and Irish gamers are also being charged more for the 60GB model; which goes for £425 (€633 / US$834) in the UK and €629 (US$827) in Ireland. The reason given for the higher price is that the territory is "traditionally more expensive than other territories."
No Sony spokesperson commented yet on the price hike in Greece.

Comment by: BeerPeer (Feb 23, 2007 08:11) How about the price in Finland? It's even higher: an incredible 680 €!

Comment by: Attin (Feb 23, 2007 08:48) Yeah, the prices here in Finland suck pretty hard almost (if not over!) 700 euros

Comment by: sugarray (Feb 23, 2007 09:13) im from ireland the price is a major issue as far as im concerned.€630 for the console and then €70 each per games.Ill be sticking to my 360 for a while,at least until some good games come out for ps3 or until the iso loader is released. The only games currently tempting me to ps3 are resistance and virtua tennis 3, and i heard some mixed reviews of both. |

Comment by: domie (Feb 23, 2007 13:57) about time that we in the UK voted with our pockets and left their products on the shelf, f--- them, i'm tired of living in an ordinary country where we are expected to pay more than the rest of the world simply because "traditionally that's been the case" why are we all such pussies here in the Uk and let them get away with it ? |

Comment by: domie (Feb 23, 2007 14:16) well the difference is that Americans are much more demanding when it comes to quality, that's why service is so good in the USA, if it sucks, they vote with their feet and don't come back or say it out loud to the company's faces whether it be an electronics giant or a local restaurant.Sony knows that so offers cheaper prices.

Comment by: oofRome (Feb 23, 2007 14:30) Quote: I think they were slamming it because the emulation wasn't 100 percent compatible with all xbox games. The ps3's emulation wasn't capable at launch, which is why they had the emotionengine shipped with it.

Comment by: pigfister (Feb 23, 2007 14:34) so not only are euro customers paying more we are not able to get a backwards compatible console!

Comment by: oofRome (Feb 23, 2007 16:36) Actually I just read it isn't entirely backwards compatible. Sorry about that, I was mistaken. Apparently it's going to be no better than 360 emulation, for some time.

|
Comment by: domie (Feb 24, 2007 17:04) I can't help smile that you complain that it retails for 699 canadian dollars in Canada when the same machine retails for 968 canadian dollars in the UK |

Comment by: Ace_2 (Feb 26, 2007 09:42) Well, let me tell you this: I am not willing to dish out $700 or even $968 for a gaming console. Never have been, never will be. The most I'd pay for a console excluding taxes is $450, no more. On top of that, I say the PlayStation 3's game library SUCKS(all I like that's currently released is Need for Speed Carbon and Blazing Angels, and the only upcoming games I like are Gran Turismo 5, Colin McRae DIRT and Sega Rally Revo). See what I mean(at least it's just my opinion. You can criticize it all you want, I still think the game lineup sucks)? |
