EA targets Nintendo consoles for growth

Dela @ Feb 02, 2007 23:33 | 14 comments

Electronics Arts (EA) is the biggest publisher for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 (PS3), PlayStation 2 (PS2), Xbox, PC and PSP in North America and Europe. Now the company has announced it will target Nintendo to boost up its growth. EA recently revealed revenues totaling $1.281 billion. The company will now focus a lot of effort on Nintendo's Wii console and the DS handheld device.

"We have shifted and acquired resources and are attacking these successful platforms," commented CFO Warren Jenson. "In short, we're on it." The publisher revealed it has has 15 SKUs in development for Nintendo formats. However, EA CEO Larry Probst admitted that stealing the #1 spot for Nintendo formats from Nintendo itself might not be possible, but that the company will settle for number 2.

"On the Nintendo platforms, we think that we can be very a strong number two," he said. "Clearly, Nintendo will always be number one on the Wii and DS, but we think we have a realistic goal of being number two, with a market share goal of 15-20 per cent."

I think this is good because EA makes some really good sport games and if they can make it interactive enough for users to exercise while they score ;) (Pardon the pun ) It will benefit all involved.

it's good to see that major developers are showing interest in a nintendo product. however, pity is EA don't really make (m)any games i like.

I like EA well because of their NBA Live games and their FIFA games. And Edios makes the one game i would go out and buy 100% and thats Championship Manager. The best Football (soccer) Managment game ever built.

football manager has far surpassed championship manager

sorry for going off topic

and the few games that need more time and attention on them like Leacgay of kain and Undieing or any non main sports game gets tossed to the side like yesterdays soiled meat.

Activision too wapes games and forces them to hit the stores before they are finsihed ...uhg....*grumbles* >>

Every company has its specialty. They make software that they really base their profits on and anything else they just dabble :)

I want to see more sports games that support the Wiimote. Madden Football!

You guys missed the main point. It said "revenues totaling $1.281b" not profits. So they could have made two pennies in profits after paying all their workers but they are making it sound good by posting their revenues. Which might explain why they feel the need to expand to the Wii. As if it isnt bad enough that they make people buy a new version of Madden every year, they want you to buy multiple copies of Madden every year for each of your systems.

Dabble and eat up IPs in order for no one else to make money off the title, they should put titles out for sale if they don't not have the game in development.
