Japanese gamers rush to grab PS3Dela @ Nov 10, 2006 12:41 | 35 comments
European gamers however are being forced to sit on their hands again as the territory has been left out of Sony's Christmas plan. Still, the buzz around the console in the UK and the rest of the continent has prompted many enthusiastic PlayStation fans to consider attempting to import a console before the March 2007 launch date.
Sony, of course, is strongly against retailers attempting this and seem poised to even take on Santa Claus if he dares try to deliver a PS3 to a European kid this Christmas. Lik-Sang, a source many would have chosen for a PS3 import, folded to pressures on the company it blamed on multiple Sony lawsuits over PSP imports in the UK last year.
Never-the-less, even with problems surrounding Sony recently, the PS3 has still been labeled as the console war favorite by many sources. The advancement of the PlayStation franchise sports hardware capable of displaying new standards in graphics and the much touted Blu-Ray capabilities that make way for high definition movies and capacity-demanding games.
While some express doubt that the price point will be able to hold, it is important to point out that Sony faces huge losses initially by producing this feature-packed machine. Microsoft's Xbox 360 also has a year over the PlayStation console, and the recent announcement that high definition videos of TV shows and movies will soon be available has boosted its appearance of being a powerful entertainment hub and not just a game console.
Sony, of course, is going the same route with its PS3 by attempting to create a powerful entertainment hub for consumers. The Blu-ray format (for which Sony headed development) is currently fighting with HD DVD to win consumer interest and become the standard to replace DVD. In the portable area, Sony is seeing its attempts to market the PSP as an all-around portable entertainment device slow down dramatically. The failure of the UMD format for movie content is an example.
It is fair to say however that both Sony and Microsoft are touting their entertainment support a bit too much, and forgetting that the audience majority cares mainly for the games and always will. Game trailers and information for the PS3 is in high demand right now and the content has been sufficient to ensure a successful launch of the console worldwide. Good luck to all the gamers who plan to fight for their PS3 this Christmas.

Comment by: wetsparks (Nov 11, 2006 03:32) I think that anyone who buys a system within the first year of release before the bugs can be fixed has more money than they know what to do with (can always give some to be =D ). There are always going to be bugs and to go along with it there is only a hand full of games at launch anyways, so what are you going to do? Play PS2 games on your PS3 if there isnt a good RPG at launch?
By this time next year all three systems will have a good catalog of games out so we can actually have some facts to argue about on the which is better 360vPS3 forum and the systems might actually be halfway stable. |
Comment by: 0mnis14sh (Nov 11, 2006 10:23) dont forget that people who buy consoles at launch will most probably be the ones to have all the crazy mods available to them. Most of the new builds for consoles are put out for piracy protection. whats happening with the psp is a good example.. |

Comment by: tabletpc (Nov 13, 2006 02:02) you think that is bad in sonys own ps3 forum im hearing nasty things every thing from the console running to hot to the console even after the firmware update not being able to connect to the internet and recomendations from everyone in japan purchase a tv with hdmi or suffer in loss of graphics quality
and even funnier even though sony has tried to stop selling of there ps3 systems on ebay ebay is facing a lawsuit now because of violations in there own sellers contracts that has current ebay sellers mad as hell
this is turning into a bull %$#% race who can bull the most will sell there console unlike the nintendo wii where nintendo has been 100% truthfull and telling gamers the facts about there console before they purchase one
where sonys game is just show videos and people will be dumb enough to buy im sorry to say unless i see a display model running then im not interrested at all and so far i haven't seen a single ps3 system display model running where i have seen hundreds of nintendo wii displays running and playing games |
Comment by: AntiHer0 (Nov 13, 2006 13:47) tabletpc, you idiot....Wii is retarded!!!! Out of the three....you should get a frimewired xbox360 first and then a ps3. Wii is last. That is.....if you have the money. Not me though... I am poor basta*d!!!
Pessimism, from the Latin pessimus (worst), denotes a belief that the experienced world is the worst possible. It describes a general belief that things are bad, and tend to become worse; or that looks to the eventual triumph of evil over good; it contrasts with optimism, the contrary belief in the goodness and betterment of things generally. A common conundrum illustrates optimism versus pessimism with the question - does one regard a given glass of water as: "Is the glass half empty or half full? Conventional wisdom expects optimists to reply with half full and pessimists to respond with half empty.

Comment by: wetsparks (Nov 13, 2006 15:53) I actually saw a PS3 at Best Buy yesterday and you could play some racing game on it. Dont know what it was called but it was a motorcycle/dirt bike racing game, looked everybit as good as the demos that TabletPC was complaining about. Also, the Wii at Best Buy didnt have any games avaible, just running some DVD that showed clips of games. God hates console fanboys. Heres the proof....

But they all do sort of the same thing, and that is rearrange what you thought was real, and they remind you of the beauty of very simple things. You forget, because you're so busy going from a to z, that there's 24 letters in between... You turn on... tune in... and you drop out...

Comment by: AntiHer0 (Nov 13, 2006 19:07) PC games are crap. PC is just for spoiled rich basta*d kids. There are only two genre of games on pc. Diablo and warcaft type...along with fps. Get a frimewire 360 then a ps3. Nough siad. Pessimism, from the Latin pessimus (worst), denotes a belief that the experienced world is the worst possible. Comment by: wetsparks (Nov 14, 2006 16:35) Well AntiHero, you summed up virtually all games there with your description of computer games: RPG (Diablo), Real Time Strategy (Warcraft), and fps. Also I am definately not rich nor a bastard but I enjoy computer games. It doesnt take a lot of money to buy a good computer if you make smart initial investments. Also, if you get both a frimewired (dont know what that is) 360 and a PS3, that is more than enough money spent to get a good computer and games considering that computer games are cheaper than 360 or PS3 games.
God hates console fanboys. Heres the proof....

Comment by: AntiHer0 (Nov 16, 2006 16:18) You idiot...it's the other way around. The only reason pc games are existly is because of console games. PC games need to steal games from consoles inorder to keep them alive. How sad!!!! Pessimism, from the Latin pessimus (worst), denotes a belief that the experienced world is the worst possible.
