PSP 2.5 and 2.6 firmware exploitedDavedough @ Jun 28, 2006 12:50 | 25 comments
What this means for "normal users" is that once this exploit is fine tuned, homebrew applications will be able to reside safely on 2.5 and 2.6 versions of the PSP. Its said that you will still need a copy of Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories to access the exploit, however it is progress.
The developer that found the exploit urges against anyone but the highly experienced PSP modders look into this exploit until a more stable means of implimentation can be developed.

The homebrew scene has reason to rejoice as PSP Updates has officially found an exploit within the PSP 2.6 firmware that gives them access to the kernel.

Just when I read that PSP is getting too hard to exploit, they come out with something like this! Has anyone bought the "Undiluted Platinum Chip" or whatever? How is that going? |

Comment by: svtstang (Jun 28, 2006 16:32) Except each time you want to use the exploit you have to run a legitimate copy of GTA: LCS, which is a pain in the a$$. Awesome though, nobody thought hacking 2.5+ was ever going to be possible without the use of the chip.

It will be very f***ing annoying to have to load the GTA exploit all the time but I'd rather be able to do everything a 1.5 could do with a long and slow GTA exploit and having the capabilities of a 2.5..(I'd even update to 2.6..if it works exactly the same way as 2.5)
Just one thing...as long as the GTA eloader does not crash and it works the first time...then the process wont be so annoying...
BOTTOM LINE: I AM VERY HAPPY!! FINALLY!
P.S. Is there a way to have it wirelessly connected to comp and the game is on the hdd of the comp and u play it from there? I ask because I'd rather bring my laptop..CD's, DVD's and in this case UMD's are so annoying to carry around...I always bring my laptop anyway (its a pentium 3, 600 Mhz...not so good but at my age its better than nutn) |

Assuming you can you have 1.5, you could use Devhookw/USBhostFS for playing things off your hard drive with a usb cable or maybe even iRSHELL to trick your psp into thinking your hard drive is ms0 (memory stick root)and then loading isos up with DAXZISO. iRSHELL supports both WiFi(nethost) and usb (usbhostfs). |

This exploit is only good news for high firmware owners that dont have money for the chip, at this point only bricked psp's have resulted from this "experiment" |
