Sony says it will meet PS3 sales forecastDVDBack23 @ Sep 17, 2010 01:55 | 11 comments
The current fiscal year ends in March 2011.
"As of the end of August, sales look a bit better than we expected," noted Kazuo Hirai, president of Sony Computer Entertainment (via Reuters).
Hirai, although bullish on the forecast, did remain somewhat muted, adding that the year-end holiday shopping season would be the real marker of how many units gets sold for the year.
Overall, the gaming industry has seen strong losses this year compared to 2009, with August alone seeing a 10 percent decline.
Sony plans to release its upcoming Move motion control system later this month. |

Outside the little glass fish bowl all us AD tech heads live in the general public is, with the execption of the iPhone, very unaware of things like firmware modding, etc. Out of all my PS3 owning freinds I am the only one who is even vaguely aware of the concept of jailbreaking a PS3, let alone how to do it, and I know of no-one whom it would influence their buying descion.

Comment by: Mysttic (Sep 17, 2010 14:37) I would like to jailbreak a PS3, but I want to wait to see if they can make it more accessible to newer firmwares. I can say I not disappointed in my slim PS3, but am my fat for not just losing the OtherOS feature, it ended up dieing anyways, so if anything I'd be mad at Sony's shitty ass engineering team for making a low quality system.

Comment by: KillerBug (Sep 18, 2010 04:42) There is a tool out that claims to be able to change the firmware version that the game checks for...new games requiring 3.42 and higher might work just fine once you change them to 3.41...giving the jailbreak a decent extension of life while the scene tries to come up with a CFW or at least a hacked FW 3.42/3.50/etc. |
