'Wii Bubble could be deflating,' says analystDVDBack23 @ Nov 25, 2009 19:01 | 24 comments
According to Gamasutra, Creutz used a survey of console owners which asked their purchase intentions for the holiday season and it appears that PS3 and Xbox 360 owners plan to buy more games this year, while Wii owners plan to buy less.
Creutz does say the numbers may be skewed however because over 50 percent of Wii owners also own a rival console, and only 23 percent of those who own multiple consider the Wii their "main platform."
"While core gamers who own a Wii own more Wii games on average than casual Wii owners, the average title ownership spread between the two categories of gamers is much lower than it is for owners of Xbox 360 and PS3 console," he added.
Additionally, Creutz says Wii hardware sales do not correlate to software success, as proven by NPD numbers that show publishers have not done as well while Wii sales were through the roof in 2008.
"While we believe the Wii is likely to be a drag on overall software sales through the holiday, the impact should be limited to those publishers which have invested significantly in Wii development, with the biggest negative impact likely to be felt by Electronic Arts which (unwisely in our view) heavily invested in Wii development for [calendar 2009]," he noted. |

Like you said, my PS2 and my PC are still more interesting than my Wii right now and it was supposed to be all revolutionary even though the Wiimote is a flawed contraption for FPSes (with the exception of Metroid: the only game to get it right in my opinion. The Conduit felt like crap). Guncon please? Thanks Time Crisis. Man, I need to crank that game out again if I can find that gun.

Comment by: xnonsuchx (Nov 26, 2009 21:34) The biggest problem for the Wii is that most owners care about the Nintendo-owned titles (Mario & Zelda). It's hard for 3rd party developers to make any money developing for the system (except maybe BoomBlox and a couple others), which eventually will drive them away. Anyone I know who owns a Wii only talks about playing Wii Sports and a few Mario titles. Good for them to be so re-playable, but it doesn't help in the long term. |
Comment by: KSib (Nov 26, 2009 23:41) Yeah, I'll agree. No More Heroes was one of my favorite Wii games, but I'm sure that didn't get the sales I think it should have gotten anyway. However, a bunch of developers are trying too hard to use the Wiimote for every gesture they can think up when they don't need to use the pointer for much at all. |

Until lobbying is a hanging offense I choose anarchy!
Ah modern gaming its like modern film only the watering down of fiction and characters is replaced with shallow and watered down mechanics, gimmicks and shiny-er "people". http://zippydsmlee.wordpress.com/ |

I obtained it for the PC last year and found that it was worth something to me...eventually (only played through an hour or 2 of it). Just not nearly worth as much as what was being asked retail.

Comment by: John_Donn (Dec 01, 2009 20:42) The wii is marketed at kids and older people (40+) the xbox 360 and ps3 is marketed towards teens all the way to prob people in their 30's somewhere. Any gamer who buys a wii who is 13-39 is not a hardcore gamer, they are a db. hardcore gamers own a 360 and/or a ps3. I say 360 more though because it has better online multiplier whereas ps3 is more the loner console you play by yourself.... |
Comment by: emugamer (Dec 01, 2009 23:20) Originally posted by ZippyDSM: yeah, pretty much :P She's been seeing a lot of commercials with Wii dancing games and is really interested in something new. Plus my kids are old enough now to really enjoy it. I guess it would be for the best. Get them away from my plasma TV.....he he he
