Wow sideffx, that sounds bad.

I'm glad mine (NXE & latest update) doesn't do that; that really isn't my experience at all.

Have you tried defragging/clearing the cache?

I was once also recommended that it's a good idea to leave the last 10% of (any) HDD's capacity unused.

Yeah, I clear the cache all the time, it makes the system work fine until I turn it off. Then next time I play it is just as slow again, and now I have to re-download every patch and update when I play. It sucks, I NEVER had this problem with a smaller hard drive and the old dash. I've read a lot of posts on xbox.com and other sites with people having the exact same problem. I love my xbox 360 but sometimes I won't even bother playing 'cause of this. Also when I save a game to the HDD, I'm only given the option to "play from Hard Drive" about %30 of the time. MS won't offer any help and deny ever hearing of these problems. Sorry if this post is off topic, but this is about my Elite System and just want to warn anyone who is thinking of upgrading like I did.

Rubbish post that proves very little points aside from i agree with the lowering of peripheral prices. Much better??? Too each his own. That is in the eye of the beholder. The resolution issue hasnot changed anything in the games graphics so far so what validity does that point bring about. NONE. Its simply about what exclusive do you enjoy most. Ones for PS3 or Xbox360. Or just be like me and eventually buy them both consoles to enjoy all games.



The price is good to match the slim PS3 but what will Microsoft do for an encore?

Well I can get a HDMI cable for only $12 each locally and I'm sure everyone else can too somewhere but most people are stupid and think the more expensive the cable the better, even though they're both the same. That's where Best Buy comes in :/

I'm so glad we had this discussion. After my first comment in this thread, I read a few articles and all suggested NEVER paying more than $10 for an HDMI cable. That the high priced (monster) with promises of better quality everything is a joke. Now I know. I love this website!!!!

The $50 HDMI cable that microsoft sells comes with a slimmer plug for the audio so the HDMI cable can be plugged in under it. Total B.S. I'm not sure if there a hack to make the old plug work.

Also from what I hear sideffx is right about the cable not being included. The guy at Gamestop told me today that the HDMI cable (with slimmer audio cable plug) will not be included with the elite anymore.

There's a hack on the internet where someone's opened up the ridiculously large connector on that chubby cable and this allows the plugging in of the other cables ~

As HDMI cables are digital you only need to buy cheap ones (not nasty cheap in case they're made up of string, just very cheap). Anyone that tries telling you that you need a more expensive one is an idiot and a conman..

I can get excellent quality 'regular' 1 meter/3 foot 1.3 HDMI cables for as little as £2.60/$4.26 (with gold plated connections and from a highly reputable supplier; (Kenable.co.uk).

If you need the higher spec 1.3b HDMI cable then I found a nice quality Falcon cable on Amazon for £7/$11.48.

(but you won't need that as Xbox uses the HDMI 1.2a standard - this allows a better quality of multi-channel audio than optical can provide, even if it's not quite up to HDMI 1.3/1.3b standards)

$50 for an HDMI cable is well out.

(unless you feel the need to get ripped off for the brand-name joke that are the likes of the 'Monster' cables etc etc)

If you're using HDMI fully why would you need another connection?

HDMI carries multi-channel audio.

However, if you aren't using an HD receiver then I guess things are a little different.

You would perhaps need the optical link to your dolby digital surround system.
As creaky says you can easily cut the plastic moulding on the silly-sized plug-end Microsoft provide so that you can use the optical too, if you need to.

why would anyone want to pay €299 for a faulty xbox-360 these things still suffer with the RROD. i would be very weary of purchasing any xbox-360 because of this hardware fault which has not been fixed yet. playstation 3 is the way to go.

You're the one making the claim that the latest Xbox has not been fixed so go ahead and prove that.
Show us all what (current) credible data you are basing this on.
Prove that the current Xbox SKU (the Jasper) has a reliability rate worse than the PS3.

You can't..... so what are you basing this on?

The really interesting bit to this that flyer nobody seems to be picking up on yet is, for me, the 'quantities limited' part.

So we know for sure now that they are chopping the Elite price to that of the old Pro - but how long is the Elite (in it's current form) going to be around?

Is a new SKU with a much bigger HDD on the way?

well all i can say to you is look for xbox-360 elite edition forums about this fault in a week or two and your proof will be there. don't get me wrong the xbox-360 is a great gaming machine when it works i had one before. but as i have been told this fault is still very much in the elite set.

with al due respect to zenno, when people say xbox360 they generally think failure rates of the xbox community as a whole and as a whole failure rates are still to high yes the falcon and jasper have done remarkably well at heat reduction. they are still prone to failure just not as great.

what bugs me is there are well known techniques to fix issue with all SKU's why then is MS being cheap in there repair program. for 150 dollars some tools and time i can make a first gen box practically fail proof,why can't they.

Of course they are
(did I ever say otherwise?).

This means they are all now the Jasper mobo SKUs
(and just before that the Falcon mobo SKU).

As for proof things have gotten much much better than they were originally one only has to look at the hardware.
Smaller CPU & GPU (people often overlook the fact that Falcon too had a smaller cooler running GPU, shrunk from 90nm to 80nm) & RAM with lower power consumption and better cooling systems.

The greatest amount of proof comes from the complete drying up of all the horror stories.

The best that can now be managed is the sort of laughable '54.2%!' nonsense following a 'survey'.
Self-selecting & unverified (and completely unverifiable).......and just by the most amazing and incredible coincidence timed to appear just as the PS3 slim hits.

The HDD's are what really need the price drop imo. And the elite really shouldn't have been THAT much more than the standard models in the first place considering the only hardware differences is the HDD size and the color if you would consider that under hardware.

It still seems a bit pricey, im not trying to get into a battle over ps3 versus xbox. The majority of my friends have xbox, and they have all had the red ring of death atleast once, but covered under warrantly and replaced as they should be. But 300 dollars for a machine simply for graphics is a bit pricey, i recently really want one to play my friends in games like halo that dont come on ps3. And so i can watch netflix through my tv.

I dont care if you love xbox or ps3 or hate either one. Facts are facts, they both have good and bad things about them. But it is easier to justify spending more money on a ps3.
A ps3 is more realiable, as a recent survery done by a popular game magazine had 49 percent of its readers responding that they had the red ring of death. A ps3 has blueray, which beat out HDDVD, so if you want a hard copy, thats all you can do right now. Also it has built in Wifi, and bluetooth, xbox doesnt. And it is way easier and cheaper to upgrade the hd of a ps3 than an xbox, i have a 400gb in mine which i spent 90 dollars on through newegg and backed up all my old game data and installed it on the new one in less than half an hour. A 120gb hd from xbox is 100 atleast.

Now xbox has a better game selection and more star hits, and the netflix option, which is great. I wish it didnt cost money for a membership like ps3, but its network is slightly better than ps3.

So it comes down to this, is the processor of the xbox really worth $300 because thats really the only new tech in it. And i say the same thing about Wii. Its similar to why much of our american car companys are in the shitter, they were charging way to much for cars that werent as realiable or cost effective as their opponents, and they paid there employees way more than they should have. The true resource construction cost of the average automobile is under 1,000 USD. So u can see how companies embellish prices far higher than they need to be.

Xbox makes a killing of there systems because there cheap and really only has great graphics for new tech. But ofcourse a still want one, its a good system with good games and online capabilities, but it shouldnt cost more than $250.
