PS2 recaptures game usage lead from Xbox 360DVDBack23 @ Aug 12, 2009 05:33 | 17 comments
Playtime was up 21 percent year-on-year, and the PS2 regained the top spot from the Xbox 360. Average playing time was 768 minutes for June, or about 25.6 minutes per day.
The 360 has been on the rise since last year, at the expense of the Wii, but the giant console base of the PS2 is hard to beat.
In terms of gender, the Wii is on top by far for women, with 360 on top for male gamers.

Comment by: Mysttic (Aug 12, 2009 11:56) I confused, how can they even base this accurately? If using the online service for each console, not everyone plays their consoles online. If they base it on sales, not everyone bothers to play the game they buy. If they actually call up people and asks, they can never call enough....

Comment by: TBandit (Aug 12, 2009 12:25) hahaha yeah i wonder how they recorded this and where is the dreamcast they got the gamecube which doesnt go online hahaha |
Comment by: Geoff_W (Aug 12, 2009 14:37) Nielsen is largely survey based, which is how it gets data on systems that don't go online. |
Comment by: inagasake (Aug 12, 2009 14:46) I seriously doubt these statistics look at online play. Because there's no way people game that much online with a Playstation 2. Rarely do people go online with a PS2. I know many people who haven't went online with it at all.

Comment by: inagasake (Aug 15, 2009 16:23) Originally posted by kikzm33z: It's true that there are a lot of PS2 gamers who don't like the Wii and feel the Next Gen is too expensive ($300-400 is too high of a price point compared to previous gens. $200 is normally the sweet spot and the 360 hard drive is practically a must so the $200 Arcade isn't enough) But the PS2 recaptured the usage lead from the Xbox 360. That's what makes these stats odd. If the PS2 was leading up until now, your theory would be correct. Telling from stats, my guess is 360 owners are playing less than they usually do because there haven't been many big releases this summer for HD consoles. |
Comment by: DXR88 (Aug 15, 2009 16:26) it takes a real man to play a Wii. |
