Xbox Live to get Twitter and Facebook soonDVDBack23 @ Jul 30, 2009 01:32 | 25 comments
"A lot of the background work's been done for a lot of the applications that are coming," says Halton, via Eurogamer. "It will be before Christmas."
The exec did rule out that the services could be integrated into the upcoming August dashboard update, but said they would be available afterwards, and separately.
The functionality was first showed off at the E3 event earlier this year.
Says GI.biz, "the services will enable users to link Xbox Live friends with their Facebook profiles, share photos ad status updates and capture in-game moments to upload instantly to a Facebook application." |

Comment by: mike.m (Jul 30, 2009 02:04) I hate Facebook and Twitter. Give us an internet browser or maybe Youtube instead. |
Comment by: bobiroc (Jul 30, 2009 02:07) Originally posted by mike.m: Yes, I am all for the internet browser. I never understood why Microsoft did not include this with their XBOX 360 from the beginning. Probably because some whiny company like Opera would sue them for anti-competive behavior because the browser would be at least based off of IE. |
Comment by: BTFan (Jul 30, 2009 02:31) I know, all these stupid crappy 2% market share browsers are jealous of IE market share so they bring up crap to feel good about themselves. |
Comment by: veyron (Jul 30, 2009 03:00) This news is gayer than Bruno. And Bruno is pretty gay. |
Comment by: Mysttic (Jul 30, 2009 04:08) Quote: LOL. Yea, however the marketing strategy to reach out to a broader audience towards Xbox Live is pretty clever regardless. And the more people that spend $, the more games and shit we gonna get, so in the long run, as lame ass as this is *or is that sore ass?* for those that don't want to use the tools, don't; and reep the glories of continued 3rd Party titles that continue to dominate on the 360 this generation of gaming. |
Comment by: ZippyDSM (Jul 30, 2009 16:21) Quote:Originally posted by mike.m: Because they rushed the 360 design a bit to much also they want total control over content, if they give you a browser you can bypass/not use the stuff they spent alot of time and effort bringing to their closed content system. |
Comment by: mystic (Jul 30, 2009 17:56) Well if it's about controlling content then they should go back to the cartridge system because once you have a usb or a cd/dvd rom involved someone will build a piece of home brew or some thing close to add content like the browser it will come but it'll be a yahoo type not some open source like fire fox some people welcome those who use their concells on the net for browsing they must pay a nice chunk of change just to be on line so hey Microsoft wake up people are asking for something better you get the lead out before all those with Xbox360's buy a PS3 or god forbid a cell phone with all that all ready and waiting ... like an Apple or Blackberry .... |
Comment by: ZippyDSM (Jul 30, 2009 18:00) Originally posted by mystic: .... your over thinking it its not about closed content to prevent geeks and high IQ people from getting free stuff by cracking/hacking the system that takes effect. And the vast majority would rather pay for it in the most convenient manner possible(buy it from live/walmart) than have to do it themselves.

Ah modern gaming its like modern film only the watering down of fiction and characters is replaced with shallow and watered down mechanics, gimmicks and shiny-er "people".

Comment by: varnull (Jul 30, 2009 18:06) I bet my backside more people own a pc with an internet connection than own a 360

Comment by: mystic (Jul 30, 2009 18:12) Zippy your right, but really if its a except-able content or app.that everyone wants why not give it to them what about service after the sale see they are dropping the ball by not making their browser available to the masses because those people will get a phone that can surf the web and twitter and myspace facebook and so on.... but microsoft could be selling more online time by offering the web to those people who want it... just a thought... |
Comment by: varnull (Jul 30, 2009 18:28) Do they have an antivirus app for the 360??.. It's running a M$ operating system after all XD

Comment by: varnull (Jul 30, 2009 21:54) So why are they bothering with this crap then? .. Surely better games and exclusives would move more units? ![]() Free open source software = made by end users who want an application to work. Comment by: FrostRose (Jul 31, 2009 07:48) I truly wish that they would stop trying to make consoles media centers. If the twitter and facebook extensions are optional I will not get them to my 360 for sure. |

Quote: or n00btube. Give me some decent games or offer opportunities to install Linux (fat chance, we might like it too bloody much) and if M$ think I'm going to pay 60 smackers for an Wee-Fee adapter they can fuck off. I'll drill a few holes in the wall and get good, RELIABLE ethernet cable thankyou very goddamn much. Everything Microsoft makes seems to be junk. I have to medicate Windows Shitsta every day just to make it go at a reasonable speed, The DVD drive of my 360 ate my freinds copy of GTAIV which I was borrowing, now I have to find the non-existant money to replace it and now I have to hope and pray to god that my 360 doesn't RROD so I don't have to repair it because a certain money grabbing company can't do their jobs properly. So yeah, I should have stuck with the PS3 with less exclusives, but better wear and tear value and better media handling all round. Thank god I'm getting the family media center pc in my room with a hd gfx so I can connect it to my HDTV and my Surround Sound system.
