'Redesigned' PS3 coming soon?DVDBack23 @ May 14, 2009 00:02 | 20 comments
There were no other specifics posted, but PSL posts a few possibilities including the fact that the redesign may just be new colors, such as white or silver to match current peripherals available.
Another interesting option is that the upcoming console will be a 'PS3 Slim,' adding some small updates such as Bluetooth 3.0. The console would also be lighter, and more streamlined, somewhat like the PS2 Slim models and the updated PSP models.
We will keep you updated on any developments. |

Comment by: bam431 (May 14, 2009 01:39) why would they ever release another ps3 now the originals still aren't selling great it's a recession, it's only been a couple years since the release and the worst reason i would have to buy a new one |

Comment by: KillerBug (May 14, 2009 02:33) ...Plus a "slim" unit will use less power, make less heat, and be cheaper for the customer...this leaves money for people to buy games (where the money is made). |
Comment by: Morreale (May 14, 2009 03:30) This would be a real smart idea for Sony if they want some more market... Not only is the buyer getting something fresh and new, but at a lower cost too. Then there are the people that already have a PS3 but just have to have the latest redesign because it's new and cool and stuff... Why? |
Comment by: Amak (May 14, 2009 06:04) This is great...but it seems that the main issue holding the PS3 back is the outrageous price. A hardware upgrade isn't a bad thing, though. |
Comment by: DXR88 (May 14, 2009 06:55) if its anything like the slimline PS2 i wouldn't touch it if it was the last gaming console on the world.

Comment by: kyo28 (May 14, 2009 07:19) If the redesigned PS3 is cheaper, slimmer and less energy-consuming, with added Blutooth 3.0, I might even consider buying a second one to go with my PS3 60GB SKU (the original released one, with the Emotion Engine chip installed).

Comment by: Oner (May 14, 2009 12:44) They will probably announce it during E3, drop the price on the current models and then release the Slim around the Holiday season (probably also add a bundle with GT5 for killer sales). There are A LOT of things going on for Sony this year and from all the info I have, E3 will be an eye opener say the least.

Comment by: keith1993 (May 14, 2009 17:49) It'll be interesting to see where Sony get the space from as the PS3 is mainly cooling and you don't want to cut back on that. An external PSU would be a bad idea as the current internal one gets stupidly hot and Sony are particullaly poor at making them (PS2 recall, VAIO ones are appalling). A smaller Blu-ray drive would push prices through the roof, as would a smaller HDD.

Comment by: Oner (May 14, 2009 18:21) Actually the main site that posted them was a Chinese site named LevelUp but has since removed the pics so I linked to a German site that still had them...here's another, plus it looks to have been partially confirmed as real (from an insider in the know). But an earlier version of something that is much improved over what has been leaked so far. We'll see though... ![]() Search > http://forums.afterdawn.com/search Rules > http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/2487 Important Rule > http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/380660 |

Comment by: H08 (May 15, 2009 02:20) if those are the official pics, i think I'll stay with my 60GB PS3 |
Comment by: lxhotboy (May 15, 2009 03:14) Man i could care less what the new PS3 looks like. The main issue is the price drop that would come with the newer unit. I really want to get a PS3 but i dont have a good reason as of now with the Xbox360 having cheaper price and great games. I hope this slim PS3 is for real b/c i have 2 cousins both overseas in service who i would love to play against. |
Comment by: borhan9 (May 18, 2009 11:20) This pretty standard updates the only thing that take my attention would be the blutooth that it would come with it. I would love to have that in the ps3 i have. |
Comment by: jacob2343 (May 21, 2009 10:20) Well if they did make a redesigned "slim" model, i don't think it would be very good at all. For one thing I don't think they would be able to retain all the hardware in a smaller unit, bluetooth, wireless, large harddrive. I think some of those features will either be removed or limited and the slim model wouldn't be as powerful as the originals either. Then again I could be wrong, I guess we will just have to wait and see. Winners never quit, and quitters never win

Comment by: varnull (May 21, 2009 10:36) I don't know why they bother.. yeah a few desperate for every new gadget people will buy them but as they stand looking at the few leaked pics.. who wants to spend that amount of money to talk to their phone when their pc does it either as standard or with an add on £10 dongle?

Ah modern gaming its like modern film only the watering down of fiction and characters is replaced with shallow and watered down mechanics, gimmicks and shiny-er "people".
