My personal opinion & that's all it is, is that: Due to those recession we will be spending more time with family & friends staying home watching movies in playing games that we can all play together! I know a good old round of halo is fun with friends but cummon your parents aren't gonna play with ya! Your kinda will kick you butt & if you have even littler ones you prolly dont want them to see the violence! so these more family oriented systems & games are really gonna take a major hold! Dont get me wrong i have a wii & a 360 (ps3 was on my list for this year but due to economy i m getting... squat! i am 28 & i can have my mom & sisters over & play game son the wii that we can all play! the 360 is getting there but the Wii is ultra friendly to those who haven't ever played b4!

Now there is something i can agree with.

Don't get we wrong i love my 360 but i have to agree with ripxrush there are more friendly titles for the wii and some for the 360.

But if you look at it from a purchasing strong point...

The wii and 360 did better then the ps3.

looks like sony needs to lower price tags.

Yeah.. The Wii is for the whole family. When I bought my Wii, only me and my sister played it - wasn't too fun. Then my parents joined in and it was way funner.
But now they don't play it...

The PS3/360 is for single player and online and maybe your friends so... Nintendo has already won.

Read the PS3 article - Sony might make a profit in 2009, meaning that Sony could possibly lower the PS3 for at LEAST £25 ($30 or something) which would be a good start even though it won't be much.

Okay did i miss the boat here? What the heck are you 3 people talking about? This is including the editor. what a bunch of freaking silly folks. I'm a bit confused, You post US numbers for all consoles, then you post world number (excluding japan) for the wii and the xbox360. Why did you (exclude japan)? Secondly, something is strange here. You post two sets of US number for the PS3 and they are different. What is that all about? Thirdly are you kidding me? The wii sold 1 million units in a week WOW!! Xbox360 sold 535,806 in a week WOW!! The PS3 sold 239,000 in one week WOW! Those are some amazing console sales for one week for all three companies. I will never understand why folks keep saying The PS3 is a sinking ship. How so? if the can sell 34 million by end of next year is that a sinking ship? I think Nintendo and Microsoft are doing really well but i don't think the ps3 is a sinking ship by any means. It seems to me, Sony may end up selling 18 million PS3 by year end at a hight price then both microsoft and Nintendo. I just wish the editor would write a better and more precise story. By the way, I own all three consoles and love all of them. Just hate silly articles like this one.

According to numbers from VG Chartz, the Nintendo Wii sold over one million units in the US in the last week alone, the highest one week sales count for the console yet.

For the same period, there were 535,806 Xbox 360s sold in the US, and 239,576 PlayStation 3 consoles. The Nintendo DS was the winner in the handheld market, selling 935,000 units to the Sony PSP's 298,000 sold.

Globally (excluding Japan), the DS was king, selling just under 1 million units. The Wii was second with 700,000 units sold and the Xbox 360 was third with 383,000 units sold. As with the American numbers, the PS3 lagged behind selling 246,000 for the week.

What doesnt make sense? The first part shows the US numbers, the second part shows the numbers for outside of the US (minus Japan which hasnt released figures yet).

What am I missing?

Edit: Ok, I see where the confusion is, and that is with the word "globally." I have edited it to say "Outside of the US."

I am sure you have some solid numbers to show for that statement :)!
I don't have an Wii,Xbox 360 or PS3, I just don't understand why people have to prove that their toy is the best and is coolest to have. Just don't get it why people can't be happy with whatever choice they made without proving that the neighbor's grass is not greener...
If I like chocolate ice cream and someone tells me vanilla is the cool and better flavor to go for, I'm just gonna laugh at them!

I understood the HD DVD/BR war, the looser would just die, with no support, no more titles released and that...But the Sony/M$ gaming war-they will always co-exist, as they always have. And if one is behind the other in sells/profits, I just see it as an incentive to better themselves and come ahead- good for the customer. The other one has an incentive to do better to stay ahead.

Like I said, I don't own any of them toys, but I do lurk and watch and sometimes wonder why people get so funkin' hot headed about it. You chose something you liked, why does everyone have to agree with you?

I wasn't arguing about which console was better.

I was simply stating that MS and SONY make the same amount of money on their consoles...

So yes SONY is selling less consoles, but they are selling for a higher price (Twice as much to be specific, on average)

And Microsoft is selling "About" twice as many consoles as SONY but for half the price on average.....

So you can argue about whatever "Sinking Ship" you want but it's useless... SONY is in the same boat as Microsoft here...

We can all agree that the sales of many Wii consoles were targeted towards the family/younger crowd market and Nintendo is successful on that but the older audience can realize.. do they put out the content of the games that we like? (fighter, slasher, shooter, etc..) No.

So yes. Nintendo is successful in marketing their console to a specific audience but the rest of the audience thinks twice (like me). I had a Wii, it was good for the first month or so then it collected dust and was never turned on for quite a while so I just gave it away because yes, I didn't care for it at all that much.

PS3/360 is the console of choice for "my generation" (I'm 20 years old (the 'mature' audience)).

Now as far as price tags and figures and all that jazz? Who really cares? Pick the console of your choice, buy it, and love it. Simple as that.

How do we know that? Again,any numbers to back that up?
In algebra, 1+1=2, but business is a system and you can make an 1+1=3->synergy.
You can say that 10 apples sold for $10 might equal 20 bananas sold for $5, but then you are talking about the revenue, not the profit. We don't know how streamlined the manufacturing(cultivating :~)) cost is for either apples or bananas, how much one can reduce manufacturing costs with bulkier orders...many factors to take in consideration when talking about profit.

Yes there is an easy way to average if they are making the same amount of money....

Take the 535,806 consoles microsoft sold. Multiply that by $200.
535,806 x 200 = $107,161,200
Roughly $107 Million

The you take the 239,576 consoles SONY sold and multiply that by $400.
239,576 x 400 = $95,830,400
Roughly $96 Million

As you can see there is only a $10 million dollar diference... and with the XBOX being out a year longer and being able to "Checpen its console" (Taking stuff out to save money) SONY is close on it's heels.... Now costing about $450 to make a PS3 and selling them for $400, (Considerably less than what it was, $850 to make and $600 to sell),

As you probablly have read already, they expect to turn a profit on the PS3 in '09

Which (Keep your fingures crossed) means they can drop the price tag a little...

You still did not understand what I was saying. We don't know how much either Sony or Microsoft spends on manufacturing one of those boxes. So, out of $100some millions-how much is the profit? Same for Sony.

Are you HIGH? Sony loses money on every console sold recently MS started to break even and Nintendo has made money on every console sold. Don't believe me Google "ps3 loses money", and get ready for an avalanche of bad news. Sony's losing about $150 per unit on their new units they lost even more on the first generation units they produced so figure that into your math.

BS!!! your link does not support your position. If you had bothered to read my link you'd see they were talking about manufacturing cost. Shoulda, woulda, coulda I thought 2008 was going to be the year the PS3 was going to take the lead. I thought all the "killer" titles released this year were going boost hardware sales to the moon. Post a link to a news story that actually shows manufacturing profit from the PS3 or be wrong!

BTW If this threads a wankfest what are you "tossing" in your poorly researched 2 pence for.
