Xbox 360 to outsell original XboxDVDBack23 @ Nov 15, 2008 04:06 | 12 comments
Mindy Mount, corporate VP and CFO of the company's Entertainment and Devices division, says "so far we've done a great job appealing to the core gamers. And by the end of this month we expect our global installed base to reach 25 million units, surpassing that of the first Xbox.
"It's a great milestone for us, but still only a start when you consider that history shows three-quarters of a console's sales come at a price of USD 199 or lower. We hit that sweet spot in September, making our Arcade model USD 50 cheaper than the Wii and half the price of a PlayStation 3."
Mount also correctly noted that the recent across the board price cut has had a huge impact on sales around the world. "In the US in September our console sales rose 42 per cent month over month, and in Europe they rose 62 per cent," she added. "In Japan we've had over a 500 per cent increase in sales." |

Comment by: Paladore (Nov 15, 2008 06:32) Great games, low low price, great customers service if your system goes down......we all saw this comming, now make xbox live free and spam us with advertisments. |
Comment by: scorpNZ (Nov 15, 2008 08:03) My guess is if the original was still being made & supported it would'nt even come close,it certainly worked for the ps2,shove ya 360 sideways where the sun don't shine, perhaps ya next console won't be under resourced with defective parts & piss poor quality control, then maybe then i might have a bit more confidence in buying one but for now i'll stick with the good ol' pox 1 |
Comment by: wrules (Nov 15, 2008 12:28) xbox live is a better service that what playstation is offering, but is it worth 30-40 punds a year, i think so. Would you rather be spammewd with advertisements and get xbox live for free or would you rather pay? |

Comment by: scorpNZ (Nov 15, 2008 18:18) Quote:Originally posted by scorpNZ: Not sure what you mean regarding opposite way,it can't be to do with online as that part was an after thought for the PS2,the PS3 i have to say is more than a match for the 360, even online the lag is no where near like it was for the PS2,i was quite suprised about that if i had'nt seen it with my own eyes i would never have believed it when my nephew came up to stay in the holidays, the game he played was Bad Company, considering the amount of players in the room,i saw little if no lag at all not like the PS2 is,even offline it's not hard for the PS2 to lag in game, burn out would be the worst for that...lol...,yeah anyway i suspect the PS3 lags behind only because of price even the games are freak'n expensive or certainly downunder anyway. |
Comment by: TBandit (Nov 17, 2008 07:28) Kinda figured they would eventually surpass the original XBOX I mean they did stop production a few years back I beleive. The orginal is still a great system to me because of all the mods they have out for it. |
Comment by: voyager (Nov 18, 2008 02:12) As i know the original Xbox sold more than 30 millions consoles worldwide.....???? |
Comment by: fgamer (Nov 18, 2008 21:12) Explains why they banned so many people's consoles (probably to relieve server stress to due to the NXE). Heck I just bought a second 360, so I think Microsoft will reach the 25Mil mark. |
