Nintendo has no comment on new DS rumors

DVDBack23 @ Aug 28, 2008 21:28 | 7 comments

In an interview with GI.biz, Nintendo has denied all comment relating to stories that a new redesigned DS handheld is coming next year, with two touch-sensitive screens.

Any talk is "rumour and speculation" said a Nintendo spokesperson.

According to industry sources, the new DS would have larger screens in addition to the touch-sensitivity, but there was not much more information available.

Sales of the handheld have stalled in Japan but continue to sell well in both Europe and US.

In other news, the Sony PSP continues to sell well in Japan reaching its 10 millionith unit sold on August 24th. The handheld went on sale in the region on December 12, 2004.

since two screens affect gaming (psp 1000 -> psp2000 did not affect THE playing directly), i dun think it would be a new ds, that's more like another gen don't u think?

Here is what bugs me..

Nintendo thinks hey we release a new ds we can stop piraters but what they dont notice is even with the dual touch screen rumor ds games only have a single touch input device so dual touch screens would be pointless for older games.

And if nintendo released a new ds they would face another issue if i cant hack it to run homebrew i wont buy it problem.

The reason why the ds has done so good is because of illegal games.

The reason the psp is doing well is because of hacked firmware.

Although there's truth to what you say, I still haven't found a DS game in 2008 that I even care to play, hacked or not. BTW, I am a BIG fan of the system and have my select games I like, it's just that the offerings have been few and far inbetween. No, ports of Iron Man and other movies don't count! LOL

Ya think?! usually when you talk about someone or something without proof or factual info from the source it is just a rumor!
Oh, u spelled "rumor" as "rumour" oops!

Not sure quite what you are getting at there, as 'rumour' is the correct english spelling, and 'rumor' is the americanised version.

Both versions are equally valid on an international site.

They are following in Sony's footsteps, changing the hardware to stop homebrew. It doesn't matter how hard they try, there is always a security flaw. The newest PSP-3000 for the moment has brought the homebrew community to a standstill, Nintendo might hope to accomplish the same.

Culture and language is all based upon region. Why would someone believe trying to correct another based on choice of words can merit a post that has nothing to do with the topic in question.

My bad! i am in the US so it just seemed wrong to me! thanks for correcting me!

oh & I did post something besides what i thought was a typo that had to do with the article! what i thought was a typo was just an after thought! I was initially replying to the post of Nintendo saying this is just a rumor!
