Microsoft spends 50 million dollars on GTA IV content

Siggy @ Jun 17, 2007 19:25 | 23 comments

According to an earnings call with Laine Goldstein, the Take-Two CFO, $50 million changed owners as Microsoft secures downloadable content for GTA IV. With this hefty amount of money, Xbox 360 will get two content packages.

"The first 25 [million dollars] is for the first episodic content package that’s supposed to go out and that is in March of ’08.", "The second 25 [million dollars] will be for the second episodic, the episode, and that will be later in fiscal ’08," said Laine Goldstein about money paid by Microsoft.

Nowhere is mentioned PS3 exclusives or episodic content, and asking the difference between Xbox 360 and PS3 version of the game Strauss Zelnick of Take-Two comments, "Obviously we’ve episodic content coming for X-Box 360 for the title and because the consoles do differ, there will be some differences in the games." This doesn't exactly raise the hopes of PS3 owners, but it is still a bit too early to say.

so we can expect two $20 downloads, where microsoft can turn 50mil + dev costs into 250 mil of our money?

AWESOME!

Well can't blame Microsoft for being agresive and courting the gaming market. I mean they do what's necessary to gurantee an sucess. Sony needs to take a page from Microsoft and do more to secure them some exclusives besides being lazy, or perhaps Sony has some first party titles of thier own to wow everyone...who knows!

"$50 million"

Thats more then most full video games budget, hope its worth it.

I for one will not be nickeled and dimed to death. Im going to buy the game and be happy with it, because im sure its going to be an awesome one anyway.

Microsoft is not alone. EA stole the sports game industry.

Think I'll wait for the PC version. Nothing beats using a mouse/keyboard setup in GTA, and of course I can do without the constant Xbox freezes/lockups/restarts associated with cpu-heavy titles (crackdown, gta, saint's row, GoW).

PC all the way!

I dunno I see a lot of short term under 2 year "exclusivity" goign on.....

Well you have the option to not buy them, right? If the game is good I'll definitely buy them.

MY Xbox360 has worked perfectly on all those games.

must be nice for the few that have had no xbox 360 issues.

I bought the DLC for Crackdown and it was worth it,one of the best
DL's so far I reckon. My 360 is still going strong with non of the issues plagued by some others.I must say 'Forza 2' is top dollar
and my wish is for DLC for a 'Bugatti Veyron' plz.
If the DLC for GTAIV is good then a lot of PS3 owners are gonna feel
a tad miffed that they are second in the pecking order for what was
once THEIR exclusive brand.
BIG IT UP for MS wid da BIG pockets ;-D

There is always someone that spouts 'keyboard & mouse' owns on the PC...etc........I say BOLLOX to that, been there, done that for
many years I might add,was fun but I would never go back.I won't bother with my reasons as people make up their own minds but precision isn't the be all of enjoying a game with friends.

Anyway,I just hope that the next GTA has all the fun and humour
of the others in the series and fingers crossed for good online
play too...

Yeah, they can each learn from one another actually. Sony needs quality titles that MS has, and MS needs quality hardware that Sony has. GTA can be the best game out on the 360, but if people are afraid to play it because their box might melt, what's the point? That is about the only thing preventing me from getting a 360. 4 of my friends 360's overheated and failed.

i bet if sony had done this, everyone would be on their backs....

or if it was EA that sold exclusive rights, then everyone would call them sell outs.

still microsoft will make money even on $50 million even if it sounds a lot trust me.... people will pay it

Microsoft spends $50 million for lunch every day.

So this will be a two part game. Kinda a waste of the money when you can pay to help the needy in third world countries.

I would not say that more like a official expansion only on console "X".
