Dungeon Siege II

Dungeon Siege II (PC)

Genre: RPG | Aka: | Rating: Rating: 3.00  (2 votes)

Aranna has suffered a lot during the civil war, which blurred the difference between good and evil. One thing is certain, Valdis, a vicious marauder, is willing to make the world obey his rules and you are the one to stop him. To succeed in this task, you will be given a party of soldiers during the game.

In Dungeon Siege II player is in command of an Elite Battle Party, consisting up to six members, all of which will get experience allowing new skills, spells and abilities during the quest. The skill system includes different types of skills, from passive to active and from healing and protection to damage causing. The intriguing storyline provides twists and turns, and plenty of interactive characters.

The stunning graphics and visual effects support the cinematic storytelling and hours and hours of fantasy RPG experience.

Dungeon Siege II is the first game to get even close to Diablo II in its territory. And for me the game has to be measured by comparing the game to the Diablo II. The graphics are far better, item system seen as diverse and the story is well-driven. But is it enough to pass Diablo II? The gameplay and GUI is maybe not as good, but with 5 hours of playing you'll get used to it, and there are some improvements, for example the adjustable item collection is awesome. You are able to collect all the selected items from the ground by clicking one button which helps the clicking hell, though it isn't too intelligent, the character closest to the item does not necessarily take the item.

I haven't tested the multiplayer mode too much being a key element in this genre, but as it offers both single character multiplayer and party multiplayer, it should offer a lot of fun and adds a lot of replay value to the game.

The skills and abilities lack diversity in my opinion, the skill tree doesn't offer active skills, which makes the slaughtering of enemies with fighters boring by using normal attacks and only rarely used special powers, while the caster classes can use more versatile spell system.

Probably the best thing about this game is the party system, the party can consist up to six members including pets, which advance levels too. The party can also be enlarged with summonable creatures. This makes the fighting more intriguing as you can combine different styles and classes to create the ultimate party.

Overall it is the best game released for a long time, and even though the story starts to repeat itself for a while and get boring when starting over if not the second atleast the third time, it offers plenty of replay value, which is obviously one of the key elements in this genre. I'm definetly waiting for the Broken World expansion!
