Halo 2 Vista was delayed because of "nudity"

DVDBack23 @ May 25, 2007 12:08 | 20 comments

As reported earlier this week, the delayed Halo 2 Vista will hit North American retail outlets at the end of this month.

The cause of the delays however, had not been revealed until today. Microsoft said in an official statement that the delays were caused by the discovery of "partial nudity" in the content.

"It has come to our attention that an unfortunate, obscure content error which includes partial nudity was included in our initial production of Halo 2 for Windows Vista.

"As such, we have updated the initial game packaging at retailers with a label, so customers are aware before purchasing the game... This packaging will only be labelled for the initial run of games; subsequent shipments will not include the content."

Available on Halo2.com as well is an update which consumers can download to patch the content.

Microsoft is taking big strides to avoid a repeat of the 2005 Hot Coffee scandal, in which a sex mini-game in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas led to lawsuits and a re-rating of the game to Adult Only.

Microsoft's statement concludes,"We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause our customers. At Microsoft we take the Entertainment Software Ratings Board guidelines very seriously and hold ourselves to high standards, with our customers always in mind."

So...does anyone know what exactly this "partial nudity" entails? er...not that I'm into that kind of thing...er ;D. hehe.

On a more serious note...Was it the devs that included this? Nobody noticed that some pervy dev put something like this into the game? Is it a prank of some sort?

That's interesting... I've finished Halo 2 on the xbox a long time ago, but I certainly cannot remember any opportunity where nudity could show up... It's all aliens and soldiers and the master chief... :O

Edit: are we talking about the same game...?

Sounds like a collector scam....

Grab the first release which has this so called nudity before newer releases come out which won't have it.

They do the same thing with Limited Edition Cases. Example Doom 3 Case for xbox, was metal, people bought them thinking just a few were produced. Look in any pawn shop or on ebay and it's littered with those Limited Edition copies.

Maybe Master Chief will show a Nipple or something...

I'm with you, the first thing I thought was that these would be collectible... It does seem a bit fishy. Nude Cortana perhaps? (I wish).

possible nippleage on Cortana?
Altho..its a M rated game...partial nudity will be over looked....

sounds like PR to me...

I hate how it's rated M 17+ and nudity is a big deal. It's like those gay servers at halo "you can't cuss cause their might be kid playing". Did the forget it's rated M.

At least they are making consumers aware of the nudity and not getting rid of it So it becomes the consumers choice at the end of the day.

its a ass shot of some guy in a mooning error message in the editor...this is insanity.......

i don't understand this mindset. mindless killing, heads blowing off followed by a river of blood. O.K. An arseshot of someone, no, no, can't have that.

if that was really what was the nudity was, they should have left it in!

Best ERROR message EVER!! (also, makes more sense than most error messages)

Does this remind you of the Grand Theft Auto San Andreas video game with the "hot coffee" plug in? The result was an adult's video game. Maybe somebody did (or will do) the same kind of thing with the Vista Halo...

The problem isn't nudity. Microsoft is having a problem with a thing called "VISTA". They can't seem to justify the development of a program that runs on a "crappy marketing ploy" instead of a real OS. Join the club and send and email to you favorite game developer to make a visually hot game that runs under OpenGL and XP and forget DX10.

Wow, what a thought, developing a game that can run on more than one type of operating system!

It's heresy I tells ya! Heresy!

How many lines of code would a trusted board of reviewers have to go through to look for stuff like this? And if they are that good to notice erroneous code entries, why aren't they coding the game to begin with?

the "nudity" was a dev mooning the camera for the error pic on the editing part of the game.

WTF is wrong with this country. Ultra violence is super duper ok, but oh, show a half naked chick or a dev's rear end and production comes to a halt.

Due to the rules set by the ESRB and contracts signed by publishers to ensure properer ratings explanation............. shit happens.
