However, Sony today confirmed that the lower end model will still be available in Japan, despite Sony America's decision.
A spokesperson for Sony confirmmed that, in Japan, "We're currently not considering changes akin to North America.
"However," the spokesperson added, "We would like to react flexibly with the market."
There is still no word on whether a decision will be made to sell the 20 GB model in Europe where so far only the 60 GB unit is available.

Comment by: ZippyDSM (Apr 14, 2007 01:31) well Japan is a niche market for such things I mean look at the Dream cast they still made it for years after its fall,I would be more interested to see it still being sold in the UK or AUS. |
Comment by: pigfister (Apr 14, 2007 15:39) Originally posted by jcur31: so what hardware are sony purchasing the $100 price difference as the wifi must only cost $10 and the difference between the two seagate drives is only $11 so that's $79 that the US is being ripped off by if they purchase a 60gig ps3.

Comment by: jcur31 (Apr 14, 2007 16:19) That's exactly why I own the 20 gig. I could care less about the wifi, I already have a 5 port switch next to it. I will never need the card reader. When I need a bigger hard drive, I will just buy one and use the built in utility to change it. |
