Im actually looking forward to this, because I think the story does lend itself to a movie...see "War of the Worlds" but with actual killing of the aliens...could be good, could be a let down, I'll let my friends see it first then go from there

It depends really. As already said, Gears does have a potentially excellent storyline, and I, for one, would love to see a really good creation of "emergence day" on big screen :-) This could be done right, I guess we just have to wait and see. Games like Gears and Halo are "huge" so the budget for their movies and the people who work on them should reflect their status.

Hopefully this will be a good moving and not have the characters saying and doing stupid stuff like most game to movie transitions. Oh and I hope they take the time to find people who most likely fit the characters build and personality. They've already done a couple FF movies. Halo was almost ready to start being filmed, when something happened. I'm not sure what. Someone help me out here.

I guess MS didn't understand a project needs money and that Halo was not a fly by night project they should have pain 10 million into the pot and stuck with their 10% of the profit.


BTW the FF movies are not live action and not US made thus don't really count..well the first one sucked so bad it dose count...but thats beside the point :P

hollywood tries to hard to convert things in their narrow minded view of what fiction is,thus 90% of game movies will fail.

If hollywood could adapt to the the fiction it would not be so bad (IE treat most heroes as super human,use the magic/powers of the world,find actors that match the look of the character) things would be better.

the only game movie I enjoyed was MK1 and even it was cheesy as all get out,tron was not so bad....

Why was FF movie bad ( I presume you are takling about the spirits within).
I think that it was better than the avarage crap Hollywood is spaming. Although not exactly a blockbuster it had its unique style and originality ... something most movies lack. Well ... animated character's are a tricky subject and aslo there might be the so called Uncanny Valley effect. I personally didn't experience it. Ofcourse there is the avarge Joey that thinks:
animated = for kids = not cool = bad by definition.
On the other hand FF7:AC as a movie(note a movie that was, unlike "Spirits within", actually based on a game) was horible .. well the cg was awesom but everything else ... it was overblown fanservice for FF7 fans.
I personally am looking forward to Halo movie ... and hope it wont be like Doom (well Doom unlike Halo didn't have much of a story to begin with).

FF:SW fails on the grounds its not FF,sorry but the "lets make something and stick a random brand on it" trend Hollywood dose is auto fail unless the project is REALLY good,FF:SW is a ok movie but I have seen better.

FF7AC is a good movie based on FF7(far from great),I have issues with how metria worked and the stupid gargoyle(bahamat) fight,but over all it portrayed FF is a good light,if you don't like it you probably don't understand "anime" either.

I think what hurt AC the most was the ad libing they did they treated it like some Manga to anime conversions thow out some things and water it down with "things they like",hollywood dose this ALL THE TIME.

the spots I had the most trouble with was the summon fight and the halfbreed POS thing they summoned,the boost jump was quite stupid probably the most cheasst thing I have seen in anime (and I love kids adventure anime,Marchen,Beet,Digimon,ect).

if they treaded it as a normal fight where cloud got knocked down and passed out while they all were fighting and aeries woke him up it would have been allot better than the super corny mega jump thing,they also could have used more of their limit breaks,they got powers and abilities witch were down played a bit to much,all in all its not bad but they could have done better.

there is no Halo movie(it was droped) no one will touch it because of the price,and if its made now it will be remade for a low budget POS hollywood likes spamming out.

DOOM 3 had a pretty damn good story,it was simple as simple as the first half of halo 1(before the orcal/flood),the fact they watered down doom to be demonless says it all hollywood is full of hacks,but anime is not clean of them either.

I thought Silent Hill was okay. I wasn't a fan of the series, but I watched the movie twice. It wasn't bad.
And mortal kombat?! hahah. The first one was sweet! Not to mention the instant classic soundtrack.
I thought the SF2 Animated version was also really good.

The rest of your list I have no qualms with, though.

Well FF:SW wasnt based on any specific game but it had the philosofical idea and mystics+scifi technology mix of FF7,8.
It was a Stand Alone Movie an inovative movie and by no standarts bad.

on FF7:AC :D i like anime (not kidie part - the more serious part, think GitS, NGE, KGNE) and I played the game so I enjoyed the film but ... for ppl that haven't played the original FF7, the movie wouldn't make much sence. it's not a stand alone product. While the sound and the graphics are fantastic the story and the characters are not.
also I agree with you about the materia+bahmut summoning part .. WAY to cheasy while the little wolf-things summoning and fighting was fun the whole bahmut schene was like trying to add something that is not necessary :D they tired to force as many elemnts of FF7 into one measly movie and thus failed. (OMG!?!?!? from which bush did Red XIII, Yfie, barret and cid jump out - i know that from Highwind ... but .. what part do they play in the movie? NONE! just an unnecesary decoration).
About Halo movie; Are u sure?... I heard that it MS finaly agreed with some studio recently ... though I'm not sure which one exactly.

I like anime and trust me when I say the kiddie stuff can be quit perverus :D ,BTW most kiddie anime is PG13+ they do not go out of thier way to water down stuff,however on a while nudity has taken a hit over the past decade fighting anime and ecchi shows that would normal have free range breasts now have cloths sticking to them like crazy,the days of Ranma 1/2 are over sadly.


however I hate OTT violence and sex anime as it is so lacking in story and charatcers it painful to watch.

I can understand them needing helpers so the summoning of the wolf and other monsters are ok but the disregard for canon metrail is insaly annoying to me,the charatcers ARE good the plot is ok the story could use polish,however the powers were greatly fcked up and misused

as for Red XIII/Yfie/barret/cid they are 2ndry charatcers sadly(were needed to fight bahamanot),the whole cast could not play a large role so in all they could have been handled worse *L* the movie focuses on cloud and the spreading sickness the other charatcers have their own lifes to deal with so so they are not going to get allot of screen time,I wish they would take the theme of FF7:AC add the cloud/whats his name short and make 3 12 ep series off it,

FF7:AC1
first few eps dealing with clouds memories of pre FF7,when he became a super solider,then after 2 or 3 eps of it,he wakes up in his FFAC form the last few eps a dream,for the rest of the show its him and his delivery job fighting once or twice showing up now and then at tifas bar where the kids are.

AC2: this picks up where the movie starts 12 eps of what cloud meting Ross,and showing what the cast is doing(everyone gets a whole ep or half a ep)

AC3:it finishes up any left over character eps then follows the movie with some "adjustments" to the end of the moive.

might need a full 2 26 ep seasons to do it not 3X12...mmmm

oh well wishful thinking....

Gay...so they were coming out with a halo movie, X_X. I think that if hollywood is going to make movies out of games that were a hit, atleast use the damn game and game creators as a guideline. Just because the game was good, doesnt mean the movie will be good as well. But the first mortal kombat movie was good tho, you have to admit that.
