Wii stays on top in U.S. in February

Dela @ Mar 15, 2007 23:25 | 15 comments

Nintendo's Wii console was the best selling console in the United States in February according to figures from market research firm NPD. In total, Nintendo managed to move 335,000 Wii consoles and the company claims it is still struggling to keep up with demand. Microsoft's Xbox 360 console, which has been out since November 2005, had a good month selling 228,000 units.

Sony's PlayStation 3 (PS3), which retails for $499 (20GB) and $599 (60GB), sold 127,000 units in the month, which emphasizes the big difference to Wii's $250 price tag. Unsurprisingly, the low-cost last-cycle king, PlayStation 2 (PS2), is still walking tall with 295,000 units sold during the month.

This would seem to refute what Sony has been saying re: PS3 not selling very well. Every time a spokesperson is asked why there are PS3's sitting on shelves in stores around the country they always respond that it's not because they are not selling, rather, the supply chain is that good! I saw at least a dozen PS3's on the shelf at Costco yesterday

I have a wii and the Xbox 360 plus psp portable. For the price of the wii it is very very nice.I know it is not a gamers choice but for my kids it does the job just fine.I went to Game crazy and he had 2 psp3 sitting on the shelf and he told me he has a waiting list for the wii's.
I'm not bashing any consoles.I just think for the price of the wii it's worth it.It keeps my 9 year old pretty content.Heck it keeps my 38 year old husband very content. Can't complain.Money well spent for wii.

I can't find a Wii either and now I am glad because the motion sensing actually sucks and I am not impressed after playing with one more. I am planning on waiting till the next generation of this type of console comes out or at least one with accurate motion sensing so the guy on the screen registers every thing I do.

I'm a old playstation boy,
That was until i got a WII, I would never consider buying a ps3.
Too expensive here in the uk.
The WII is so much fun and everyone here wants to play it, Its the only machine that can bring all people together to play, OK its not a great gaming machine, but its much better to play with real live people, than sit on your own and play against virtual humans !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well you must have had it set up wrong or something because I have no problems with the motion sensing and the 4 friends that bought all have no problems.

iam not a basher or anything like that.but think about it is a dodge neon better than a benz i dont think so.but you see a lot more neons on the road.i wonder why?

Comment by: UncleBozo (Mar 17, 2007 20:51)

Well if you're talking about reliability, the dodge and mercedes is about the same.

Comment by: ThaJazz (Mar 17, 2007 22:14)

thats the first time i ever heard someone say a neon is just as anything to a benz.you clearly never owned a fine luxury car.but the point iam trying to make is that if the price is good on anything it will sell and that is a fact.it dont have to be better just cheaper.if the wii was 350.00 would it still sell as well.i just dont think so.and again iam not a nintendo basher or anykind of basher just putting something out there to talk about.so please dont attack my post

I think what ThaJazz is trying to say is that Nintendo designed a game system for the masses making it fun and affordable. Yeah it may left out a few flashy features, but it gets the job done.

Getting off topic here, but its well known that Mercedes have been producing terrible cars , especially the last few years, so much so that the directors actually apologised for the poor quality standards.

European luxury cars have long been renowned for poor reliability, they sell you the idea of refinement, quality and safety, what you mostly get is safety and refinement that breaks down a lot because its over complicated and over-engineered.
