Nintendo still supports GameCube globallyDela @ Feb 25, 2007 13:27 | 9 comments Nintendo has contradicted reports that it is no longer producing hardware or software for the GameCube platform, saying that the company still supports it on a global basis. "I can confirm that globally, Nintendo is still continuing production of GameCube hardware and GameCube software," a Nintendo spokesperson told Eurogamer.
The reports that Nintendo cut support for the GameCube platform stemmed from comments made by American exec Perrin Kaplin, which indicated that the company was no longer manufacturing the consoles or developing first-party software titles.
Ever since the launch of the Wii console, retailers have reported a surge in game sales for the GameCube. This is due to Wii's backwards compatibility support for GC titles, giving low prices to new Wii owners for titles such as Capcom's Resident Evil 4 and Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker.

Comment by: rihgt682 (Feb 25, 2007 15:58) only ps2 is left. I don't think ps2 will die anytime soon. since more good title is still coming out. I think it'll last for other year and half. |
Comment by: SGSeries2 (Feb 25, 2007 17:38) I don't see why they'd stop making their greatest hits titles. At least not until the end of this year. It makes shopping for games for the Wii console a little bit easier to look at. (lower price point in addition to everything else) |
Comment by: pstamer (Feb 25, 2007 21:19) Heck, they're releasing some pretty cool rpgs on the ps2. I wonder why they do that when nextgen systems hit. |
Comment by: ZippyDSM (Feb 25, 2007 23:01) Heres a thought if you support your older system you can reprint the games cheap on disc or as downlaods and make OMG a profit off them,it might be a small profit but good god heres a thought support the older hardware and games and make a damn profit off it.... |
Comment by: duckNrun (Feb 26, 2007 05:42) Hey Zippy... are you actually suggesting that these execs might have an actual GOOD thought--especially one that benefits the average consumer as well as their bottom line?

Comment by: duckNrun (Feb 26, 2007 10:16) I agree, but then sony's been doing a lot of things and saying a lot of things that boggles my mind lately. I think the native BD support has put them in a bad spot in terms of how far they can reduce the price point of the ps3. And until there are more game sales out there to help compensate for this it may have put them in between a rock and a hard place.

Comment by: ZippyDSM (Feb 26, 2007 13:02) Originally posted by duckNrun: sadly their long term approach is handicaping and harming the PS3 maybe thier will be enough back lash for the PS2 hardware removal for people to cause a fuss ,it made them put HDMI back in. |
