Pricing for PS3 games announced

Siggy @ Sep 26, 2006 04:57 | 67 comments

Japanese site Impress Watch has reported that PlayStation 3 games will cost up to £52 ($100), gathering information from "multiple information sources." Most of the upcoming PS3 games will drop in the £39-52 ($75-100) range while even the most popular PS2 releases barely exceed £39.

It seems like Sony is going to be taking back money lost in the console creating process by selling over-expensive games. This already traditional business strategy has been also performed by Microsoft, yet you can get Xbox 360 games almost £20 ($38) cheaper. The cost of the PS3 unit, whether it is the dropped $410 in Japan or the more costly in the US or Europe, with these expensive games, it will lighten consumers' wallet quite a bit.

PlayStation 3 will launches November 17 in the US, November 11 in Japan and March 2007 in Europe.

UPDATE: According to SlashGear Sony is taking preorders of PlayStation 3 games for "only" $59,99, which is comparable to Xbox 360 game prices. All the seven games available in Sony Style USA have the price of $59,99 and include Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII, Call of Duty 3, Full Auto 2: Battlelines, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, Sonic the Hedgehog, Tony Hawk's Project 8, and Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom.

Damn! $100 for one game? What the hell is Sony thinking? Well, wait, they do need some way to make up for all of the batteries having to be replaced...

Wild9

10 to 1 they think they can live off their fan base by these prices.

is the ps3 even gonna have better graphics?

it seems to me the ps3 is gonna cost alot more game wise and system wise than the 360. If im gonna spend 600 on a system its gonna be a computer which also plays games. i can get used to the xbox controller to play madden.

the PS3 is a monster with the limits tooken off DVD size meaning larger textures (better graphics) and its power it should be a jump is graphics simalur to the Xbox to the 360,you will see a diffrance but in the end its just "paint" covering gameplay and thats my gripe for the past 5 years

frist round of PS3 games are listed at 59.00

begs the question do they really plan on trying to go to 100 I'll give it 50/50 I think they will try,but reailty will smack thier arrogant arse back..

They will quickly dwindle their fanbase with tactics like this. Bad Sony..Bad!

Comment by: ZippyDSM (Oct 13, 2006 13:52)

wait these are euro prices in the states they shouldn't go above 70 but then I don't trust Sony *L*

Wow, I know I am being sarcastic but you can now trick a regular XBox without any mods (soft ones included) into thinking your burned ones are pressed and signed by MS? THats the first I have heard of this.

@ Pop_Smith... Actually you can. There's a firmware hack (just like for the 360) available for the xbox 1's dvd drive.

Newegg.com is selling burners for $700 with free shipping.

I been thinking about the 100$ games,I think collectors Editions will be 80-100 I can see that, but the msot I have seen a new game for is 70ish so in a year or so 70-80 will be a normal top number for the PS3 mabye the 360 and mabye for PC games.

yeah, what was it. halo 3 collectors edition or something, its 100$ and it comes with likke a master chieft helmet replica. so yeah. in this catalogue i got, well its a japanese one so it really doesnt apply for the price in america, but it should work for speculation. resistance fall of man is 5,980 and ridge racer is headed for 7,329. so yeah, probably 50 to around 80 bucks...there were only two lineup titles that were more than 8,000 yen. Armored Core 4 and this Train simulation game. the rest havent been announced yet.

no kidding. i think they should have revealed alittle more a little sooner, so that customers could actually know a little more about what they were going to be spending 500$+ on.
