Over the past few days, rumors of a $100 'Xbox Lite' being released next year have been making the rounds.

The rumor came via famous "Microsoft leaker" MS Nerd, who says the cheap console will launch next year with an ARM processor.

Additionally, the Lite will run all games, media apps and support the Kinect, making it a fully functional Xbox console, at a $100 price point not seen on gaming consoles since Sony dropped the price of its PS2 to $99.

The device will come before (or possibly alongside) the rumored next-generation Xbox Next (Xbox 720/Durango), which is expected to be a powerhouse and will likely launch with a hefty price tag expected to be above $500.

Microsoft did not deny the rumor, but rather left with the standard "no comment:"

The Xbox 360 has found new ways to extend its lifecycle like introducing the world to controller-free experiences with Kinect and re-inventing the console with a new dashboard and new entertainment content partnerships. We are always thinking about what is next for our platform and how to continue to defy the lifecycle convention. Beyond that we do not comment on rumors or speculation.

That is what Microsoft always say that is nothing new or news worthy. All these rumors about the next PS and Xbox is complete garbage.

I post about this few hrs ago not sure why not showing up(3-28-2012)

makes no sense if 360 100.00 next year since kinect motion and game cost 120.00 and the bundle with 4gb is 299.99 so can it jump to 100.00? the time frame doesn't add up... that's like saying that the ps3 would cost that much without the move bundle

The title of this is MISLEADING. Microsoft did NOT respond to this rumor. WTF Afterdawn? You trolling us?

Seems unlikely...getting all those games to work with an ARM processor would be incredibly difficult, and the money saved by switching from the current (extremely outdated and cheap) processor to a top-end ARM would be very small, if not negative.

That said, I can certainly see them selling an XboX Arcade model for $100 in the near future...it won't even be worth that much when the XboX NeXt gets released.

xaznboitx - The rumor says it will support Kinect...it does not say it will include it. As for a $100 PS3, not as likely; the PS3 can double as a bluray player, and it needs a hard drive. We might see it for $150 when/if the PS4 gets released, but the PS3 simply costs to much to build...and has too much non-gaming value.

believe the author of the article is misleading us.he put microsoft respondes to rumours just so more people would read it.

Makes sense from a business standpoint. That is if the "no more used games" is true.

The console mfg's launching a machine with will no longer play used games is HUGE. Gamers which hang around the web on the forums already know about the rumor, but we are the 1% of the 1% of gamers.

Think how the general public will react when they find out.

So MS launching a new, cheap, back-compat unit right next to it's new, expensive, unit seems legit.

They want to "test the waters" and see if the general public is going to accept this new "leash" of a console (the 720). If not then they'll sit on the shelves while the new, cheap consoles sell like hotcakes.

who the hell is gonna pay over $500.00 for a system that ...what.. has a bluray player,,, a few more gigs of ram,, and a bit more power in the processor. the ACTUAL game play and graphics arent going to change hardly at all. the price will drop fast.
