Aside from Sony not being the sole creator of Blu-Ray and doesn't have all the decision power if Sony even tried to block Nintendo or any other company from licensing Blu-Ray that is the very definition of AntiCompetitive Business Practice and would result in a lawsuit.

Halo is pretty cool the preference is waranted if you are going to choose one or the other.

Maybe the Grim Reaper with Bill Gates face on him. :)

Sony probably very happy with this decision as it will (likely) lead to an increase in Blu-ray movie sales.

That's a very good point. Universal, Sony, MGM, and the WB will all benifit from this.

That point of course, is based on the assumption that the new Wii will be a hit with consumers, which of course could prove to be false. But then again, can't remember last time Nintendo had a true "dud"... (maybe Gamecube?)

Even if it does have BD Gaming that doesn't mean it will actually support BD Movie Playback. Just look at the current Wii since it has DVD but doesn't support DVD Movie playback.

Good point, when I first discovered that my Wii can't play dvds, I was a bit shocked, I thought it was a given... We can only reasonably assume that the new Nintendo console (not calling it Wii 2 since that might upset some members) might play BDs (and if it can do that, I don't see why not 3D BDs as well :).

Peace!

That would imply it is capable of playing movies more than not!

This is a very good name for the next Xbox ,The Green Reaper;this console will take all the souls of gamers not to "die" just to live forever.Xbox is here to stay.

Look at the main system RAM doesn't the six year old Xbox and five year old PS3 have as much? .

PS3 has a single 3.2 core that likes to pretend it's 8 separate ones, as opposed to four separate 3.5.
The video and core RAM for the PS3 is 256 a piece, compared to 1gb and 512 respectively for the Wii U.

Much MUCH faster.

What? Pretend?? Really???

I like to pretend I'm 8 people as opposed to truly one person? Works for me.... LOL

Well "pretend" might be the wrong word but he's right the PS3 only has 1 core processor and 7 SPEs, so its certainly not a "real" 8-core processor.

Comment by: Mr-Movies (Jun 09, 2011 05:38)

I get it he is talking about a RISC CPU which is a different beast but still multi-threads so your right pretend wouldn't be proper.

Thanks DVDBack23 that makes much more sense now.

Sigh... new info posted over at http://e3.nintendo.com/hw/#/about does not list any info about gamecube compat.

I have a feeling that gamecube compat has been dropped.

It does list the controllers though and the Wii Classic controller is listed so it will be able to play Gamecube games, I would guess otherwise why carry that contoller.

Comment by: Gnawnivek (Jun 15, 2011 13:13)

There's no point stressing over Wii U will play GameCube games or not. Honestly, I don't think people even care the Wii can play GC games. If it does, great, if it doesn't who cares :)

The real gold mine is releasing remastered HD collection :) So maybe stop the BC BC does the trick?

Peace!

Comment by: Mr-Movies (Jun 15, 2011 16:01)

Some of the Gamecube games are better than the newer stuff they have out now so that is why there is concern for backwards compatability.

Hmm... when I read it (and just now reread it) it only lists the classic and classic pro, not the gamecube controllers.

the classic controllers cannot be used for gamecube games, however a gamecube controller can be used as a classic controller.

i'm now near certain that GC comapt will be dropped. When I first read this article I was excited that Nintendo kept the compat and gave em props for it...

However, I do see the WiiU supporting GC games in the form of VC DLs... they will re-release the better stuff on VC so we can all pay for it again... : ( I don't see the WiiU supporting GC discs and controllers...

Ah that makes sense, thanks Jam_k. GC controllers work as Classic controllers, but not the other way around. I just read that the Wii U will not play dvd/bd, so much for 3D, lol.

Peace!

Your right I got confused with the Classic controller. But it does seem odd that it wouldn't be carried over as that is the one good thing Nintendo does and is good at, backwards compatability, and as you know many Nintendo fans like their old games so let's just hope it is an over sight.
