Blockbuster app 'Angry Birds' headed to consoles

DVDBack23 @ Nov 25, 2010 05:59 | 3 comments

Rovio Mobile's blockbuster app "Angry Birds" is headed to home consoles, and soon.

The developer also says they are currently working on an Angry Birds 2 game for mobile users.

Rovio's new version of the game will work on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii, opening up the game to a whole new giant customer set.

CEO Peter Vesterbacka says the console version will hit next year, likely in the Q1.

As for Angry Birds 2, the game will not be a sequel but instead a completely new game.

In the game, "the pigs will be a lot more active than just being slingshotted at by birds," notes the CEO.

Angry Birds has sold upwards of 15 million copies at $.99 from the Android Market and the iOS App Store.

well... not sure if this game going to do well. It's a great game for android and the i-phone, but I would be weary of it on consoles.

Yes you could be right, but the console community is more networked then the iPhone. For example Xbox live could provide better leader-boards or even Real time Multi Player could be interested if developed well.

Not only that, they would need to kick it up a notch to make it a Next Generation game, the engine just needs a tweek and graphics upgraded but end of the day it could turn out to be a risk.

As the owner of Angrybirdswalkthrough.com, i am looking forward to this release as i am a 360 fan boy and quite interested in seeing the first iPhone to 360 port with updates. I am going to keep my faith in what is in development due to Angrybirds is still #1 in itunes and mostly kept it's position as first 90% of the time and my traffic is still rising so the product itself is quite popular and has quite dominated the phone gaming market.

Not sure about anyone else but i want to see what they are going to do with this wonderful engine they have created.
