Panasonic shows off 'Jungle' portable gaming system

DVDBack23 @ Oct 06, 2010 00:57 | 10 comments

Panasonic has showed off the Jungle portable console this week, a handheld designed for online gaming and MMORPGs.

The Jungle aims to differentiate itself from the more popular Nintendo and Sony handhelds by adding a full QWERTY keypad, a touchpad, a D-Pad, and shoulder buttons.

Although it is unconfirmed, the Jungle supposedly runs a Linux OS, has 3G and Wi-Fi support, and has an HDMI-out port.

If the console does run on Linux, it means most of the MMORPGs will need to be ported, already putting the system at a disadvantage.

We will keep you updated on any developments, including price.

Interesting, but so are most indie handhelds. It'll bomb.

Until lobbying is a hanging offense I choose anarchy!
Ah modern gaming its like modern film only the watering down of fiction and characters is replaced with shallow and watered down mechanics, gimmicks and shiny-er "people".

A quote of an email I sent to Panasonic:

"Dear Panasonic -
I recently saw an article on your "Jungle" portable gaming tablet. Could this be adapted into a phone? This system is essentially my dream phone, except for lacking the phone part."

If the whole point of warcraft is to waste your whole life, then I would think you would love this as a method of wasting the last few hours of every week.

Come on it is a portalable linux box, get a atheros wifi attachment to be able to do injection attacks and it is portable hacking device. Crack WEP > Connect > Dump payload = WOO

As for the gaming itself, i don't think they would release a product like this without having plans for content. Blizzard could be making their own special app for it or better yet just install wine and load the win32 version.

Remember linux is tha best and Windows should be shot in the head.

In theory, yes...but remember that there are cases where windows is faster or even more reliable than linux...and games are a prime example.

As for me, I saw it as a portable hacking box as well...
