Latest Pokemon sales crush estimates

DVDBack23 @ Sep 21, 2010 21:53 | 9 comments

Nintendo and Game Freak launched the latest Pokemon games (Black and White) on September 18th in Japan, and according to el33tonline, sales have crushed all estimates.

Pokemon, since its launch in the 90s, has long been one of Nintendo's biggest cash cows, bringing in strong sales for every new iteration of the franchise.

The latest games have all-new Pokemon, a fully revamped visual style, new ways to connect online, and even new battling options, giving the series a serious makeover for the first time in years.

Pre-orders for the game exceeded 1 million and the source says 2.63 million units of the game were sold in its first 48 hours of release.

The last releases, 2009's HeartGold/SoulSilver sold 3,382,597 copies, total.

Don't feel bad - I'm 23 and in the same boat. I think Pokemon gets a little more grief than it deserves from people who aren't that familiar with it. It's not all Pikachu and Nurse Joy; it's actually a pretty innovative RPG series.

I remember when red/blue and then yellow came out..Use to play this religiously when I was in the 3rd grade...The last one I played was Gold. Nice to see it is still going strong.

i had the Special edition Pokemon Yellow Gameboy and Game when i first got it in 3-4th grade as well and think i finished it 20 times and got all the pokemon. Great time waster for traveling and bored in class but my god it is still going. there is like 500 pokemon now, who remembers the original 102 pokemon.

That was sweet but i think it is over kill these days.

Huh, I thought "piracy" was hurting sales. Yet another nail in that coffin:D

Can't wait for it to be released in the U.S... makes me feel old considering I was 10 or so when Silver came out...
