Blizzards removes 320,000 'cheaters' from Battle.net

DVDBack23 @ Apr 22, 2010 19:05 | 18 comments

Blizzard has announced today that they have removed 320,000 "cheaters" from Battle.net, shutting down the accounts of those playing Warcraft III and Diablo II and using hacks.

A first time ban gets your account suspended for 30 days, and a second time offender will be banned for good.

"We would like all players to remember that abuse of unintended mechanics and/or use of third party programs is a violation of the agreement made when signing on to Battle.net, and can subject your account to disciplinary action up to and including a permanent ban of its access to the service," says the Blizzard forum post. "These types of activities can severely impact the stability of our servers, and we'll continue to aggressively monitor Battle.net in order to protect the service and its players from the harmful effects of cheating."

The account closures are final, and the company says most of those banned were first reported by legitimate users who emailed the company claiming those users were cheating.

The company says if you know of any other cheaters or sites responsible for distributing hacks, email them at hacks@blizzard.com.

I like that there's a temp ban first then a perm ban.

Dear Blizzard... "LeetHackor4554" just killed me. He must be cheating. Please ban him.
Thanks

Unfortunately for them, all Blu-ray protections have been broken and BD rips can be found around the Internet, usually before the retail even hits shelves.

Yes, we must have missread the method used to identify enemies of this virtual state. Check the LULA, where this must clearly be written; or clearly be illegal.

So let me get this straight, if I keep losing to another player and want to get revenge all I have to do is report he/she as a cheater and the person will be ban. Great, I'm going to start my list now because I really s*ck at these type of game. lol.

I'm sure they do more than a simple he-said/she-said when banning people for cheating.

Will Blizzard continue to debit peoples accounts during the first ban? Only idiots pay monthly subscriptions to play games that they have bought. If I had to pay a monthly subscription for all the games my family and I play then I couldn't afford the mortgage. Only sad people subscribe to this this model of game playing and I have no sympathy for them.

If you want to get into what Blizzard does to people, forget the $20 a month. Blizzard games make people into fat lumps of semi-human filth that don't have any friends (at least not in real life). From what I have seen, WOW is worse for a persons health than smoking.

they Ghost you if your claimed to be cheating, you cant see them but they are there. they do it in AION to only in AION you start to Skill lag while your being Ghosted.

This is cool. I mean if you want to cheat on a game do so when you are offline, but don't do it while you're online. The cheater doesn't get any better and the experience is taken away from the players.

Plus, cheating isn't much fun...once your are immortal, what is the fun of life?

That gets old real quick.

To Frogfart and Killerbug.
Battle.net games do NOT require a monthly subscription fee.
They have always been free to play, and still are. Complaining about a monthly fee, when one doesn't even exist in the first place...

think maybe had they stopped this a long time ago they may have had more users as of now? just a thought wondering why it took them so long

MMO success is never to ban in increments, but in mass. every MMO that has 1 million+ players do this
