U.S. PSP sales jump 300 percent following PSPgo launchDVDBack23 @ Oct 08, 2009 15:32 | 19 comments
Not surprisingly, given the hardware numbers, game downloads via the PlayStation Store also spiked, about 200 percent.
"The launch of PSPgo has generated strong consumer interest in the overall PSP platform and the PlayStation Network's digital content offering," said Seybold.
"With several blockbuster games launching digitally and on UMD in the coming weeks - from LittleBigPlanet to Assassin's Creed Bloodlines - we expect this momentum to continue and look forward to a strong holiday season for both the PSPgo and PSP-3000."
On October 5th, Sony Europe announced sales were up about 120 percent, despite poor critical reception of the device. |

IE we wont own the game but we will own the right to play it via a key that's tied to our account that can be transferred to another account for a fee. |

I know there are plenty of loyal sony followers who would be willing to do so and not actually "own" any of the content they purchased. If enough people decide not to purchase into this business model of download only, maybe Sony and other companies can be sent a message.

Comment by: Mysttic (Oct 09, 2009 12:50) Games will never be maxed out at a $30 price tag no matter what medium because there is no industry standard in place for pricing of such matters. Nor is there for movies, music and any other entertainment that requires any medium. You can look for a middle ground all you want, but Sony and other companies like em don't really give a rats ass what the consumers want, because they hire people in their companies to tell consumers what they want.

Comment by: cdxanti (Oct 09, 2009 14:53) In the eyes of Sony even lending a game to a friend is infringing on its copyright. If all we have is the right to play the game then im only gonna pay like 1-5$ for it. This brings something into the light, how are people going to buy games to give away as birthday or holiday gifts? |
Comment by: core2kid (Oct 10, 2009 02:21) What's 300% of zero... |
Comment by: llongtheD (Oct 10, 2009 03:12) Originally posted by core2kid: I believe the answer would be zero, and its why I'm curious to see how this download only device sells. I think there are a lot of consumers who don't read the "fine print" so to speak, and its going to cause some problems for Sony. Just a guess. |
