DSi hitting North America on April 5th

DVDBack23 @ Feb 18, 2009 20:48 | 5 comments

Ever since the Nintendo DSi was announced in late October 2008, many interested gamers have wondered when the handheld would head stateside.

The answer came this morning when Nintendo announced the DSi will hit the US on April 5th priced at $169.99 USD. The console will initially be sold in black and blue.

When asked for comment, Nintendo Europe said they still did not have a set date for a European DSi release.

Nintendo also "announced that the DSiWare application will also be making its way to the US. The application allows owners of the portable to download new software from the internet a la the iPhone's App Store, with prices starting at 200 Nintendo points ($2)."

Sounds cool, however, I wonder if they will allow user-created DSi content in the form of DSiWare. They currently don't have the ability for user-created WiiWare so I don't see why the DSi would be any different.

I'd rather have a fat DS with a GBA port...

I agree with u Zippy. Shot themselves in the foot with this one. While it might be good to put music and pictures on a SD card that it supports, no backwards-compatibility as regards to older cartridges. Bummer!! Don't see the need to pay $50 extra for this...

I have yet to see a fun looking game that would utilize a camera...

Crappy cameras take almost no real estate on a circuit board...they shouldn't have removed the GBA slot. It's used by many people who want to geek with their DS as well as to keep using their old library of games that are still fun.
