Snoop Dogg headed to Rock Band

DVDBack23 @ Feb 11, 2009 19:44 | 10 comments

The popular rapper Snoop Dogg has announced a deal with MTV that will bring the artist's music to Rock Band.

Although no songs were specifically mentioned, Harmonix and MTV did note that there would be a "selection" of hits from Snoop's back catalog.

The new deal marks the third time Snoop Dogg will appear in a video game following his appearance as a fighter in Def Jam Fight for NY and a cameo as himself in True Crime: Streets of LA.

Additionally, MTV will distribute Snoop's next album, "Malice in Wonderland" and will be host to his new variety show entitled "Dogg After Dark."

That is interesting they are having rap DLC for Rock Band. I guess it is only fair considering they released some country DLC. :P

I don't know.....I feel like it should be a separate game - like "Rap Group." Not a big fan of Country music, but it is closer to Rock than Rap is IMO. I'm not hating. Just find it odd.

Snoop Dogg keeps busy. This guy has built himself as a brand over the years, though he's far from as squeaky clean as Mickey Mouse (but no worse than other rock/pop/rap stars!)

So, how exactly do you work his music into Rock Band? Maybe a metal remix?

Ahhh...more lyrical editing in Rock Band. ;)

I find this completely fair. It is not that Harmonix wants to appeal to blacks or anything; it is all about diversity in my opinion. I for one am tired of the 'honoured' songs that get placed in Rock Band and Guitar Hero that are called 'classics' because generally I almost always dislike them.

I do not dislike rock, but GH/RB has become a speed thrill for me; if the song does not go 200+ BPM (a la DragonForce) then I am not playing. On GH3, the only songs I seriously play are the DragonForce songs. Every now and then I play songs because I legitimately like them; I hope they put more Freezepop and other electronic artists. I am way more a fan of electronic music (trance, hardcore, etc) into Rock Band, figuring out a way to make it seem sensible that a 'band' would play the song.

I am working on my own Rock Band clone and I plan on having a lot more variety of music (plus people can create their own) than just 'praised' rock songs.

Finally something that actually makes me want to buy rockband over GH.

It's likely going to get cencored to hell though =\

Where ever Snoop goes to he will make some chronic for the company and they will be happy about it :)
I wish Snoop and the label the best of luck.

Forget the guitar, they're gonna need turn-tables. I agree, it should NOT be called Rock Band.
