Japanese DS owners get TV tuner attachment

DVDBack23 @ Nov 22, 2007 22:47 | 11 comments

Nintendo has recently announced that Japanese DS owners will be soon be recieving a TV tuner attachment dubbed the DS-TV.

The DS-TV will be a cartridge with an attached antenna which will allow owners to watch TV on the go.

After the announcement last week, the company began taking pre-orders for the device and the Japanese site actually crashed due to the intense inbound traffic from would-be buyers.

The device carries a 6,800 yen (approximately $63 USD) price tag and an estimated battery life of 3 to 5 hours depending on how bright you keep your DS screen.

When asked whether the DS-TV could work in foreign companies, Nintendo made it clear that they had no plans to launch it anywhere outside Japan and that the cartridge would not work on European or North American DS's.

Thats dirty that they didnt make it work in other regions. They would have had some serious extra sales outside of Japan.

They can't even supply Japan with enough, so I doubt it.

I think that is the point my friend, they cannot produce enough to supply the whole World, at this time .. ;)

To work in the UK, it only requires every alternate line to be suppresed .. :)

Procode ..

um... it would be useless in the us since everyone switches over to all hd broadcasting! & the ds probably isn't fast enough to down convert te hd into a lower resolution!

I believe that all the channels are already in HD in Japan. I wonder if DS can handle that.

Maybe Nintendo do not want to end up like Sega (releasing Sega Saturn outside Japan which was a failure)
