Uh, most every gamer already has a PS2. This is not what we want Sony. We said PS3 Price cut and a permanent one, not just a tease like you just did. We understand that it has Blu-Ray blah blah blah. It was your choice to include this expensive propietary technology so do not penalize the customer for your business decisions. Seeing as Blu-Ray/HD-DVD hybrid players are becoming more common I will think that your Blu-Ray movie playback capabilities will surely be near useless in a very short time.

Well, I never bought a PS2 since I didn't have the money, but thx to the price drop I might consider it since there's tons of games I'd like to get my hands on.

Hell No. I have a V3 and it works fine so why would I spend money to get a system the plays the same games when my current one still works just fine. Its not like I get anything new besides it being slimmer. I'd rather take that $90 and set it aside to buy a new generation console like a 360 or something.

Why would you waste your money if your current PS2 still works. That boggles my mind. If they drop the price to $99 there are still plenty of things I could put that $100 into instead of replacing a working PS2 with another PS2. If my current one was broke or had something wrong with it maybe, but if it still plays games and works why... just why.

I think Sony should take the PS2 and make it like a PS3-lite. Put in one of the upcoming Ipods new Samsung flash memory cards giving the PS2 16+ gigs of internal memory, Have a slot for an additonal memory stick. It would still only play PS1 & PS2 games, normal DVD/DVD+/-R & RW playback, and CD-R/RW playback.

Even if they didn't go with internal flash memory the memory stick reader alone would be awesome. You could transfer game saves from PS1 & PS2 memory cards to the memory stick to be used for PS2 game saves on the PS3, and PS1 game saves on PSP's available psone emu's.

The internal flash memory could store movies, music, pictures, game demo downloads, allow moderate internet browsing, Help speed up PS2 game load times. All could be already be accessed since the slims already come with network adapters already. Basically it would be roughly like a desktop version of the PSP.
I'd totally pay $150 bucks for a PS2 like this. This could balance out the loses the PS3 has bled from Sony in just mere months.

Would it hurt the PS3's sales. Yes and no. Yes because with a much lower sale price it would probably out sell the PS3 hands down. But if you want HD/1080 res, larger storage capacity, Blu-ray, wi-fi, and the newest most cutting edge games you'd have to upgrade to PS3. I think they could co-exesist, Mercedes can sell a c-class and S-Classes and still turn a profit. Theres room for top-of-the-line media center (PS3) and a high funtioning game machine (PS2)

the ps2 is a great system.it defined 2nd gen consoles winning that generations console war and is still beating today's modern systems.there was a price drop on it before the ps3 came out.that drop was to $129.99 and the silver one is too which is fair.now you can expect $109.99 which isnt worth it anymore,it still sells but just clear that shit off the shelves!sell it for $89.99 so the ps3 can have a bigger piece of that pie........thats my 2 cents!

i would sell my old one...
and then buy a new one after the price drop,im suprised your V1 still even works i went through a couple of PS2's in my time...
i mean you can sell you old one for about 55-60 on ebay...and then only have to pay about 40-50 for a brand new console which IMO isnt bad...

I think I have read that the PS2 is still the number one selling system world wide. That is why they are still keeping them on the shelves. Just look at the catalog of games. If I was buying a system for my kids I would get a PS2 over all of the new systems. 120 buck and 1000 games makes sense to me.

How many games are they producing for the Xbox0, I only know of two Madden and NCAA08. Tons for the PS2 are coming out this year.

I don't blame developers and publishers for wanting to make PS2 games, huge user base and PS3 owners can play the published game also.

Sad but true, I have bought more PS2 game then PS3 games since I bought the PS3. Mostly because of quality and price.

I don't see what's wrong with getting another PS2. The current library of games for the PS2 (including the PSX games you can play too), and the promise of the new upcoming number of releases it'll still be receiving over the next few years can easily justify another purchase, especially if you've started to play import games like I have recently.

And bobiroc, saving that 100 dollars to buy a 360 doesn't seem like a good idea to me. If you were hoping to get a 360, haven't done so yet and heard about the recent price drops, sure, why not get a 360? But why bother with a 360 if there are practically no games you'd be interested in except for perhaps 1 lone title? That doesn't make sense to me. Sure, there's plenty of good fascinating games on the 360, but they're the type of games I wouldn't spend money on to own one. The only game I'm looking forward to on the 360 is Lost Odyssey. Depending on how that goes and what other RPGs follow from that, maybe then I'll consider getting one.

My v5/v6 PS2 is incredibly old, and I can only stretch its life-span for so long until I need to get a laser replacement. For games that don't work so well on that v5/v6 PS2 like my PSX games and a few titles of other PS2 games that have trouble running like Valkyrie Profile: Silmeria, I play these troublesome games on my v15 silver slim PS2 instead. Having a 3rd PS2 around the house would be quite tempting since I occasionally do have friends that drop over and play with my PS2 so where's the harm of investing on yet another PS2?

Edit: And I almost forgot to mention this... Yes, I will still have working PS2s around the house but considering how often each one would be used, I don't think they're bad investments at all. You may not see it, but for me to have multiple PS2s around the house would be tempting and quite useful as I could finally lend a PS2 for my sister to play with instead of bringing it back and forth when I need to use it to play a particular game and still keep 2 PS2s around me so I could still play with them, each one for specific needs including the playing time my friends, guests and relatives would be spending.

I wasnt talking about replacing or anything like that.. If read what I wrote.. I was applying that to "NEW" customers, not current ones...
Since you brought it up.. I wouldnt trade out the old PS2.. In my opinion, they are the best... I have meet more people having trouble with PS2 Slims than the olders models b4.. I love my big block v7... Specially since its mod'd.. I may buy an extra one to put in my bedroom, so when my gf is watching stupid real life tv crap, I can go do something more productive.....lol

I’ve had two ps2's effectively die on me. The first one I gave away because it barely worked and I had just bought "the wonderful new slimline v12". Then last month my v12 dvd laser burned out so it's effectively a ps1. Now I need a new ps2 again... but the price drop won't come until November? I think I’m going to have buy one before then which of course sucks.

One other question is will they remove any features/downgrade the ps2.I bought a game cube when they had their price drop and the first game I bought was progressive scan compatible. It was only when I went to the Nintendo website that I found out how they were able to cut the price. They discontinued the progressive scan feature and cut corners on a couple of other things that I can’t remember at the moment.

The funny thing is people are people, and theres awlways gonna be somebody complaining..
The price drop will work for some, and not for others.
Heck, we have silver colored slims selling here for $89
at wallyworld. I was like man, there desperate.
The ps3 will eventually get cheaper, but by then, they will already have a new console or something else thats still exspensive.
Personally, I have owned 2 ps2 and still havnet got a ps3 yet!
The only reason, I cant afford to pay $600, and really theres not hardly any title worth buying for ps3.
Xbox 360 came out with a few good ones, but Its still not like ps2.
How many games are for ps2? exactly. and still comming out.
what sucks is that games like Rock band, and others comming out exclusivly to a console like 360, or ps3 really are not fair.
That means we have to spend the money for the console, then run out and spend more money for a game. thats well over $600 in my area.
And as much as I love games, and really want Rock band, I dont see it happening soon. My advice to the industry would be look at all the people that are devoted consumers, and get feedback.
Cutting corners just leads to more complaints and setbacks.
Why cant a developer make what people want? wait they do, they just endup trying to beat that one, and then so on.
Ps2 has been around for awhile, and will still be around awhile longer, But I just want to see a market, where people dont have to come across a deal, just to get what console they have benn wanting.
ps2=awesome, ps3=is it worth it?

That's what microsoft should of done. Kept producing the xbox 1 console and games instead of dropping it. Its been nearly 2 years and the 360 hasn't really taken off yet and dominated. Why is sony still producing the PS2? Its gotten more affordable to manufacture and the best part games are still being produced. The consumer catalogue library of games are increasing and when the time comes to make a transition into a next generation console the answer will be clear. Microsoft should of done that and let the consumer decide when they want to buy their 360 console instead of just forcing it on them. Many bought the xbox very late in time and come to realize they have an obsolete console, which pisses me off. Were the financial analysts on stupid pills when they decided to stop production of the xbox 1? With every piece of electronics there are disadvantages that affect the manufacturer that consumer usually exploits, that’s what makes you or break you. This is why they had decent sales considering it was a new player in the console industry. The xbox 1 can be easily be modified without even having to open the console. That’s mainly the reason why it pushed many units and could of made it notoriously popular worldwide. Microsoft should have let that slide and continued on producing its xbox 1. Imagine the xbox still on shelves beside the PS2 with a big banner hanging from the roof, “The Xbox can be easily modified and lets you emulate other consoles”. Which one would you buy? I'm not saying that scenario would actually happen but if everyone knew you can almost imagine what I'm talking about. Its not about if its wrong but what make sense. Even though the xbox 1 was technologically advance in almost every aspect than the PS2 it lacked joint ventures, exclusive game titles and user base. People do what makes most sense. I grew up with the PS1, those who did are fans forever no matter what. PS2 vs. Xbox well that’s where many got side tracked and bought the rival console. My point is sony is very smart by still making and releasing games for the soon to be legendary console.
